There seem to be many pros and the only con is price.  But, arguably, the life expectancy is much higher.  I guess I am just downright lucky I've gotten 6 years out of the old Dell.

5 to 6 years is about average.  The one I had two laptops before, the one before the one I had spilled coffee on lasted about 5 1/2 years.  It was still working but the monitor was doing some weird things.  It would dim then brighten again.  Also it would have this phantom dark place that would appear for just a few seconds then go away.  I went ahead and replaced it rather than waiting for it to bite the dust completely.
