Aww poor thing… it does look like itching to me too. What the cause is I can’t say of course. That’s funny that she likes the lysine gel. But if you think that might be causing the itching just stop it and see if the itching goes away maybe- did the itching start when she started taking lysine? I used to try to give lysine to Wizard because he was FIV positive and he had mild herpes symptoms sometimes. But almost everything that I gave him in pill form made him vomit so I stopped.
Sorry I'm just getting to this now! But poor Wizard that's no fun :( I will say there is a proximity in the dates. I started the lysine on the last day of October, and Phoebe's first reaction was November 11th. I can definitely try stopping it and see how she does, especially if it's not doing much to help the FHV symptoms anyways (it's more like a treat for Phoebs now anyways :hyper:)

I would just wait a month, give them the probiotics and wait to go to a dermatologist. Once you think she’s OK from the convenia you could try the anti-histamine and see if that helps. Chlorphenerimine is one that I used to give to my cats when they needed one.
I definitely will schedule an appointment for the dermatologist once they tell me they have openings, hopefully, there are some cancellations in the next month or two... I did ask about Chlorphenerimine at their visit Thursday, but I don't exactly remember what she told me other than she did mention Benadryl as an option. I can definitely push it at their follow-up, especially with so many people saying it really works!

They are very pretty kitties 😀 that is so sweet that Milo comes over to try and help her when she’s so itchy. They are so sensitive to each other.
They say thank you :happycat: They are best buds, they even call each other from different rooms to play and cuddle! They're usually attached at the hip, here's another sweet picture :itslove:

I will say I bit the bullet, and gave them the Clavamox. And dare I say it... Overall I think it's helping! Phoebe's energy and appetite are up, she's been more eager to eat when I put out food which is a huge relief, and she's had solid poop the last two days! She did drink some water yesterday on her own, but I'm still putting some in her food as well (though she never really drinks much water anyway). She's also been playing with Milo throughout the day, which I'm sure he's very happy about because no kitten likes to play alone! So far, no side effects from her which is amazing. The only side effect is Milo has been getting some diarrhea from the Clavamox, which I kind of expected, but his hair is so long it keeps getting stuck in his butt fur... Woke up this morning to a literal crime scene in my bedroom, which is unfortunately carpet. I've been using Cottonelle wet wipes to get most of it off of him, then a wet rag and flea comb to get anything from the wet wipe off and anything poop I missed. I'm washing my sheets, and I cleaned the litterbox, floor, and windowsill where tracked it. But I do have cream-colored carpet and because it's runny, I can't necessarily see where poop streaks would be so I probably just need to clean the whole area. I'm not sure how much experience or knowledge you or anyone else here has on cleaning carpets, but what's the best way to clean and disinfect it? I used to have a steam cleaner (Bissell Pet Proheat 2x) but I returned it because I was afraid of getting mold/mildew. I wouldn't be opposed to getting it again, I just want to make sure there's no germies getting spread all around my bedroom:stars:

haleyrose99 haleyrose99 I have only used clavamox once, for my late cat Lily. She was on 4 different types of medication including that.

I know Kitten Lady has Ferguson who is permanently on Clavamox because he stops eating when off it and no one knows why, including his specialists. At least last update I read that was the conclusion.

Anyway, Clavamox is used in very young kittens and is fairly safe. I don't think you need to keep worrying so much over the convenia. Most side effects would have happened already.
URIs — Kitten Lady

I usually check what the VCA says on any medications for my cats.
Amoxicillin-Clavulanic Acid

And then I usually check the manufacturer for their lists of side effects: Zoetis

I do NOT search the random internet, as you will 100% without doubt hear horror stories about everything. However, we don't get the full information, and each cat is an individual. I'm always very aware that each cat has their own potential allergies and reactions and again that you won't hear stories of, "my cat had this basic infection and got better from this basic medicine." New medicines likely yes, or for tricky diseases you'll find that kind of thing, but not for basics. People just aren't going to be out there posting good news so the internet is always a skewed result. Kind of like how people always ask to speak to a manager about a negative experience and not about positive ones.
That's so weird about Ferguson, I've never heard of that! But yes you're right, I'm definitely a person to go straight to the internet with a question and get overwhelmed by all the negative information, I have to work on that especially for my kitties' sake  I totally freaked myself about anything with convenia as well, they are taking the Clavamox now and doing just fine! Only some diarrhea with Milo and it doesn't seem like the Proivable is helping/preventing it unfortunatley, but we only have 6 more days left so I might be able to figure out a solution/handle it until the end. Thank you for the links and the comfort! I appreciate it! :heartshape:

I can't talk much about the meds or allergies because I don't have experience with that, but regarding the eating, since it's the most important thing right now...

Because she's hungry but then walking away, have you considered something to help soothe her stomach? Perhaps she's nauseous. My cat was on pepcid, so see if your vet thinks that could help.

There are also appetite stimulants you can ask about. And keep a close eye on her to make sure she isn't dehydrated.
It's very well possible! I'm almost positive the first week after convenia and vetalog she had an upset stomach. It's strange though, a few times she would walk away from the wet and go to the dry I leave out during the day. Not sure what that means, I just assumed she got sick of the wet food? But she could definitely be feeling nauseous. I can ask my vet about pepcid or the appetite stimulants, thank you for the advice!!

Are you giving the Proviable at least 2 hours from the Clavamox? You should not give them at the same time since one is a probiotic and the other is an antibiotic. You CAN give S. Boulardi with Clavamox and it's great for diarrhea.

I'm so they seem to be doing better with the Clavamox. (other than the diarrhea). Hope it continues.

As far as cleanup, any enzymatic cleaner would be good, or you can make your own cleaner if it's not smelly with 1/2 T Dawn, 1 T vinegar and 2 C warm water. Of course, that steam cleaner is always a good choice.

I had no idea and never considered that they shouldn't be given together! Crud, then it's definitely not helping them at all, I'm sure it's killing all the good bacteria now that I'm thinking about it  I've been mixing the Proviable with their food at dinner right before I give them the Clavamox because my vet recommended they get the antibiotics with a meal to avoid nausea. I'm definitely going to do that with the probiotic today!
Okay I can definitely do the homemade with what I have now (once I get a steamer), but if I get an enzymatic cleaner can I use it for routine cleaning? Obviously, I would use it in this case because of the diarrhea tornado but when I think enzymatic I assume spot cleaning/odor remover. Would it be harmful to the kittens/carpet to use it even without any obvious pee or poop in the carpet for like a weekly or monthly clean? I've seen/had vets recommend Nature's Miracle if that's a good one and I can get it at Petco I think, unless there's another brand you recommend?
Thank you so much for the advice!!!

Natures Miracle can't necessarily be used on all types of surfaces (leather, for instance). For everyday cleaning, I would suggest using the dawn/vinegar, or there are other homemade cleaners out there, some use alcohol, some use baking soda, etc. Just google it for all kinds of home made cleaners. If they call for essential oils, unless it's tea tree oil, they are really there to make it smell good (IMHO). I never put them in there unless the recipe calls for tea tree oil. That one is useful, but unfortunately is bad for cats, so I make sure I only use it in areas the cats can't get to while I'm cleaning. (or get to the bottle)

Woohoo! Any probiotics at this point is probably just keeping the diarrhea from worsening. Unfortunately, antibiotics kill off many good bacterias too.

Have you talked to your vet about giving a double dosage of probiotics? Sometimes that helps more "stick".

Every time my current cat vomits (typically a hairball), he goes straight for the kibble. It was the same with another cat I had in the past. Whenever he was feeling queasy he'd go munch kibble instead. I wonder if perhaps for some, it helps settle their stomach a bit, like when we munch crackers because a sandwich feels like it would upset things again. That's just a guess, though. I wish we could ask!

I've wondered this too! Kibbles do soak up some liquid in the belly, so perhaps it soaks up some of the acid biles too.

I am glad they are doing better 😀 such cuties 😀😻

I recommend shaving some of Milo’s butt fur. Zena has on off again soft stools from dietary stuff and is longhair and has the same issues.

Pretty much all longhair cats have this issue at one time or another. I used to trim Sybil’s butt fur, and I just did it for Zena 3 weeks ago, although he fought me terribly. And that was the end of wet poop stuck on his bum and getting rubbed on everything else.

I had a clipper because I used to give Sybil a lion cut in the spring because she got terrible matts.

I’m still not sure why they were given Clavamox, piggy backed to Convenia… but I’m glad that they didn’t have a reaction to that in addition to convenia.

It seems kind of strange to me to prescribe Clavamox for G.I. symptoms when you don’t know what’s causing them. Usually metronidazole is what’s given if a cat is having bad diarrhea because it treats it well in many cats but c sometimes causes diarrhea.
It seems kind of weird to me to be given all of these meds for relatively mild issues. If Wizard had a flareup I never would’ve given him Clavamox, and he was at FIV plus. None of the DVM ever suggested that. He lived to 21-22.

I hope you get a diagnosis for what’s going on with them soon. But the good news is they’re doing better so yay! 😀

re: cleaning… I have never used steam cleaners for carpets, I have one for floors. But I have no carpets left except for a few area carpets. I use Scoe if any urine or poop gets anywhere, and it works very well. It’s the only probiotic odor eliminator I have used that has ever worked for cat urine and poop etc. … it immediately eliminated the odor. However wall-to-wall carpet is a different matter because you have a pad underneath that you can’t lift it up to clean under it. Scoe comes with a little injector too so you can inject it under wtw carpet. Normally I just spray it on the area I’m trying to clean to saturate it, and I wipe soiled areas with paper towel, spray again and then just let it dry.
