Years ago, when White Tip and Oz first came "inside" in the days when the old chicken coop was the feral cat rehabilitation center, White Tip had a box with a "mouse hole" to allow her a place of refuge as she developed into A Regular Cat - and this same box is the one in which she was transported into the main house one wild and windy Hallowe'en night.

I should have long ago tossed it out, since its state is a fright - the hole ragged and enlarged by years of little cat teeth and claws having worked their magic - but it remains here in the office, in part as a reminder of a different Lifetime, and in part because she's still frightened of thunderstorms, and once or twice each year, she still uses her ancient and decrepit hidey-box.

When yesterday's storm rushed past, there she was again in her old Safe Place, though I suspect more from habit than from fear, as she seems too relaxed to have been particularly worried about a little thunder. Sweet, lovely girl, who knows at last that there's no force made by the hand of Man - nor even by the hand of God - which Love cannot conquer.
