    Rest easy, sweet Sassy

Yesterday, April 4, 2022, we had to say our goodbyes to our beloved little baby, Sassy. She stuck with us since being adopted as a kitten and would have been 21yo this coming July. She had lost her vision, some of her hearing...but she persisted, always living fully into her namesake. Our...

    Senior Cat - Urination Issues

Stressful, but routine trip to the vet. She wailed pretty much the whole time. It has been a week since the litter box modifications, and 100% success! Vet expressed no concerns for her, and indicated he would decline to do lab work, etc., given her age and relatively general good health as well...

    Senior Cat - Urination Issues

Thank you. We had covered boxes up to this point because she used to not squat to go, but stand and shoot. It is only in the past 3-4 years she has adopted the “traditional” posture. I’m familiar with Nature’s Miracle. Used it in the past with mixed results, in my experience.

    Senior Cat - Urination Issues

Brief update: Sassy has a vet visit scheduled now for this Saturday. In the meanwhile, we replaced her litter box with a shallow, lid-less on, with absorbent training pads under and around. After the debacle of Saturday, she has successfully used the old and the new pan with no other attempts...

    Senior Cat - Urination Issues

Sassy is nearly 20 now (just a few more weeks). She seems to have become mostly blind, and also lost a bit of her hearing. She may have a bit of feline dementia (but not sure). We are a single cat home with her since our other cat left us 7 years ago. She has always been a bit anxious and takes...

    The Birthday Thread 2020

7/3/20 marks birthday #19 for our little baby Sassy (at least according to her records). We adopted her as a wee one from Humane Society. She is older, slower, has lost her vision and much of her hearing, but...vets continue to be impressed by her overall health. She is, and always has been...

Comfort Zone/Feliway Frequency - Rug Protection

Mrs. & I are on our 3rd attempt to have a rug in our kitchen. Our two previous attempts involved cheaper, rubber-backed rugs and the result was Sassy peed on them.  This happened despite having sprayed the second one with Comfort Zone; the first we didn't think the rug was going to be an...

    Still grieving?

I am presuming that, somewhat like humans, animals have the capacity to grieve loss and perhaps even do so as individually as human beings. That said, I am wondering how long to chalk up behaviors to grief over the loss/absence of Sassy's older brother Striker (not biological brother) and the...

Cat uses litter box all the time, but always pees on new rugs and ONLY brand new ones.

I'm also beginning to believe there is something to the smell of rubber-backed rugs.  They do not smell pleasant even when brand new; either the rubber backing or the cheap poly-olefin plastic fibers is the culprit. In our new home, we have already trashed (2) identical runners, each peed upon...

Indoor Only Shorthair with mats/knots in fur

At 13, I've noticed that Sassy had developed a number of thick mats/knots in her fur. This had not been a problem previously; our grooming has always been spotty at best. What could cause this to happen? Even more importantly, I've been using our Furminator to help get these under control. ...
