My cat likes a dog better than another cat. Strange?

Yes, the dog is cat sized and cat friendly - he is playful with a submissive disposition and totally non-aggressive (if anything, he is slightly afraid of the cats.) He gets along with both the cats, but the "girls" don't get along with each other, not even a little bit. Can you explain to me...

My cat likes a dog better than another cat. Strange?

My boomerang son has come back to live with us for a while. He has a 10 lb male Jack Russell terrier and a 5 year old spayed female cat. We have a 3-1/2 year old spayed female cat. She's been an "only pet" since we got her. My son has his own space in the in-law suite so the animals don't...

Can Somebody Explain About Boxes versus Crates?

I think that's the type my son has for his cat and he has no problem getting her in it. I might have to try that.

Can Somebody Explain About Boxes versus Crates?

I tried that strategy! I'd leave the carrier out with the door open and treats inside hoping she'd just go in it on her own and get comfortable with it. She never once stepped foot in it. I finally gave up and put it away, hoping when I brought it back out it would seem "new" and she'd want...

Can Somebody Explain About Boxes versus Crates?

I'm sure you all know how it is. You leave a box sitting around and a cat will get in it (even a shoe box!) You leave a grocery bag, gym bag, tote bag open and a cat will get in it. I can't pack a suitcase with her jumping inside. Heck, I recently put a salad bowl on the kitchen counter and...

Another Cat/Dog Encounter - Are They Playing? I Can't Tell!

Thanks for the input. Stella never hisses! I've never heard her hiss, snarl, or make any kind of aggressive stance and she's never scratched or bitten anyone in the two years I've had her. Right here with Tino is the most assertive I've ever seen her.

Another Cat/Dog Encounter - Are They Playing? I Can't Tell!

Stella swats Tino1 I posted a video a while back trying to gauge my cat's reaction to my son's dog who visits from time to time. Stella's gone from cautiously curious to somewhat assertive. She will actually chase Tino and she follows him relentlessly when he's in our house. I don't know if...

Help Me Interpret Cat Body Language Please!

Thank you for the encouragement. My son found Tino running loose in the road about six weeks ago. After searching for an owner and turning him over for the mandatory seven days at the animal shelter, my son was allowed to adopt him. He is the best dog, I can't believe anyone let him run off and...

Help Me Interpret Cat Body Language Please!

I believe my son's cat - who is much more assertive than Stella - has given him a smack down or two. That is why he seems to have a healthy "respect" for cats - or so it appears.

Help Me Interpret Cat Body Language Please!

There is a second video where she lays on her side and reaches out to him. Comments on that? Stella and Tino2

Help Me Interpret Cat Body Language Please!

So my son brings his dog Tino around most days for a couple of hours and he has NEVER lunged at Stella or chased her. (My son has a cat at home, so the dog is used to cats.) Stella never takes her eyes off him when he's here, she pretty much follows him around and just watches him. She seems...

    Introducing dog to a cat

I love the name he picked! He found the dog on Valentine's Day, and the dog has a kind of heart shaped spot on his side, so they named him Valentino - to be called Tino, of course. SO....the question is how to keep the cat litter (which is in the laundry room) accessible to the cat but not...

    Introducing dog to a cat

My son found this adorable little terrier running down the road and was never able to locate the owner. After the obligatory week in the Animal Shelter (where he was chipped, neutered and vaccinated) my son was allowed to adopt him. The pup will stay at our house until my son finds a new...

My Cat's Newest Obsession - What Is Going On?

It's almost like the light bulb went off and she realized that there were more things to see in those drawers and cabinets. A little while ago I caught her in the cabinet where we keep the bags of treats - she had opened the door, gone inside, and was trying to get into one of the bags. I'm a...

My Cat's Newest Obsession - What Is Going On?

Not any more! She got tired of "asking" and has now mastered the art of opening cabinets and drawers. It's like having a toddler in the house again!

My Cat's Newest Obsession - What Is Going On?

No, everything is status quo. Maybe now that she's explored the whole house, she is looking for new nooks and crannies to conquer. That is all I can come up with - but it is all kind of sudden which is why I'm puzzled.

My Cat's Newest Obsession - What Is Going On?

Yes, she is spayed and she seems to feel just fine (had her checkup at the vet just a few days ago, in fact, and she's in perfect health.) She isn't acting "off" in any way, just a sudden burst of intense curiosity.

My Cat's Newest Obsession - What Is Going On?

Stella is two years old, and has lived with us for 1-1/2 years now. She has the complete run of our large home, plus a sizable catio, and three hoomans who shower her with attention. She is neither bored nor neglected. But the past few days she has started a new habit of standing in front of...

What is that special touch they have?

Or how about a cat that will go in a paper bag. A cat that will go in a shoe box. A cat that will go in a suitcase. But get out a crate with a nice comfy pad and treats inside and NO WAY.

    Did My Cat Have Kittens?

I should clarify that this photo was taken a few days after I got her. Yes, she has long since been spayed. I guess I just wondered whether I took a mother cat away from her kittens, but the vet wasn't very definitive on whether she had actually had kittens or how long ago it might have been...
