My cat Wilbur had a series of blockages back in March that resulted in him needing a PU surgery, which he got unfortunately on April 8th we brought him to the vet for the 3rd time in a month due to inappropriate peeing, and he was diagnosed with stage 2 kidney failure. On April 9th his pees seemed smaller than the day before, and we learned he had scarring from the PU surgery and was blocked again from the scar tissue, this blockage had caused structural damage to his kidneys, and they guessed the blockage pushed him into stage 3 or 4 of kidney failure, he would have needed to be catheterized for a week to try to stabilize him, and then he would need another surgery with less than a 20% success rate, that also had to be done at a separate veterinary clinic 7 hours away. The vet told us due to his kidney failure it's likely he would only have a couple weeks after the surgery but it was more likely he wouldn't make it through the surgery or that the surgery would fail as anesthesia is hard on the kidneys. I decided it wasn't fair to put him through that as no cat likes being hospitalized for minimum 2 weeks, to get a maximum of an extra month where you're in late stage kidney failure just didn't seem fair. He was put down that day April 9th he went out in my lap and snoring after getting to eat almost half of his box of treats when a box usually lasted a couple months. He always enjoyed looking out the window playing with his toys, screaming for wet food and invading my space. He is missed greatly.
