I hate acrylic yarn period, although i don;t trust the chemicals.. I use cotton at times, but Mercerized cotton that doesn't leave residue everywhere . Cascade Pima Ultra is a fave for me. Also I use wool and superwash wool. I like the cascade line.
Cats like ALL stringy stuff. The important thing I am finding is to just make sure your cat is with you when using yarn. I NEVER leave yarn or yarn balls around for the cats to get ahold of and choke or ingest. If they ingest non toxic fibers I imagine they eventually will get coughed up like furballs..but why risk it?
If making stuff for cats, toys or sweaters, best suggested is Red heart Super Saver, but I hate knitting with it because of the roughness.

So what are the knitted cat dens and blankets made out of,wool?
I'd never leave string of any kind where they can get at it ,Max was in the bag soon as I got home! Now this acrylic goes in the trash because I wouldn't want a toxic blanket lying about

Red Heart Super Saver & Cascade Wool Ultra Prima? Is that what I want?

Most are made from Red Heart Super Saver because they can be washed and dried in machines.
WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO MAKE, WHAT YARN DID YOU BUY ?before you toss out the yarn?
I think you are overthinking it.

Lol-Im not making anything yet- Ive never even picked up a knitting needle before yesterday. So your right, over thinking because I bought the least expensive acrylic yarn just to learn-Im not past making the Longtail stitch casting on

I'd like to start with maybe some little pot holder or any little thing before I move on to a nice blanket and eventually those cat igloos

I'll just keep practicing but because this yarn keeps splitting I ordered the one you like on Walmart ( cascade ultra prima wool) and an assorted pack of bamboo needles so I can see what's comfortable to learn etc( the different videos tell you different sizes)

I found what I was looking for that the igloos and cat dens are made of - also purses and other stuff I'm interested in- it's really called " rope" it seems, coarse cotton knitting rope-

I think I need to stick to crawling and try walking before I enter a running marathon! Rofl

The siZe of the needle is different according to the yarn. You can find the needle size on the ball band or label on the yarn. I have used charisma. It calls for a us 11 or 9mm needle. Could it be splitting because of your needle being too small? To be honest,a trip to a real local yarn shop would get you enjoying knitting in a 20 minute visit and geting hands - on help. But meanwhile this is a perfect starter project for your charisma yarn ! Happy kniting..

Best of luck with those replacements! I need 1 done, but have put it off for 2 yrs now. Get yourself stocked up with lots of chunky and bulky yarn to whip up some easy garter stitch scarves while you are in rehab. They will come in handy. wide ones, thinner ones, and even yarn that change color throughout the ball like the Caron Cakes would be fun!

Keep in mind, as I found out, cat can grab a loose end and run faster than you can stop him.
I was told by the rescue where I volunteer they would not accept anything knitted for either the cats or the dogs because it can be dangerous for them. Ever since I read the really horrible stuff that can happen to cats with yarn, I always put mine away and never leave any loose ends laying around.

Also, if your cat has a piece of yarn, string, whatever hanging out of his mouth, DO NOT PULL ON IT. This is an emergency situation that needs an immediate visit to a vet.

Daisy was a happy girl this evening. I'm reworking a pencil skirt I made a couple of years ago into an A-line, more or less. Yarn bought this morning, most of the skirt frogged this afternoon, knew knitting started this evening, and she supurrvised...

... at least until she got bored and went off to do something else.
