No idea, however i can offer that he's awful young to have experienced this before. Plus, he's been out and about in our neighborhood for over a year (I've been advised) He can't be over 2 years old, no? I'll have to do some double checking with the neighbor who first started feeding him.

More importantly....Mav ate his morning breakfast downstairs with the rest of the crew! I'm truly amazed at how quick he's integrated, so quickly becoming a full member of the crew!
Mav sleeping in the bed in his spare bedroom today. Amazing how fast he's catching on.
HAHA....he just plopped down on the floor in front of me. Gotta laugh, he makes it seem like it was all planned!
I think Mav is a smart cat. He sure know the rules. Stay cool, play along with the other cats and don't cause trouble and don't spoil the chance of being served in this beautiful place called home.

Just guessing, of course, but Wifey and I believe he's no older than 3, though I'll still check with the neighbor lady for further feedback and information.

Zero trouble from Mav, hard to believe his ability to enter indoors in such an eloquent manner. Bug was a major PIA in comparison.

Mav ate downstairs with the masses for brekkie again this morning. I want to make that a habit, for both social and convenience reasons.
He's back to sleep already, under a chair (on a cat bed) in the TV room. Such a GOOD kitty.

some very serious help needed here.....(pic attached) yesterday my son found an abandoned, fully grown (wandering in circles, aimlessly) black cat at a local beach obviously wet/freezing cold, apparantly blind (?) brought it home to warmth and safety and a potential vet visit first thing Monday am.
His eyes have been closed since, hasn't eaten/drank, peed or pooped since.
Unfortunately, the emergency circumstance has forced me to displace Mav out of his dedicated spare room, making place for the abandoned cat.
We are taking care to wash hands after contact so as to (hopefully) contain any infectious stuff.
He's apparantly able to hear, as snapping fingers cause a reaction to his ears. However, eyes shut. I opened each, they seem to be ok. Previously, he did suffer some damage to the left side of his face, swelling and marks are present. We've washed him up a bit.......an obvious trip to the vet tomorrow. Can anyone offer any input to make him eat?
I'm quite concerned as to his med condition, obviously.

Kindness obviously runs in your family and your son did a wonderful thing by bringing this poor cat to safety. I hope you will be able to get a vet visit tomorrow. Be pushy and insist!

Getting a cat to eat can be difficult. I'm dealing with that now with one of my indoor cats and I will probably be going to the vet tomorrow to be sure there are no problems. You can try tuna fish, any kind that is just tuna and water. Baby food that has only meat and broth, no onions, garlic, etc. Churu or other tubes of the squeeze-up stuff. Hopefully, by the time you read this post, the cat will have eaten something. If not, there is medicine to stimulate a cat's appetite (I have used Mirataz, a transdermal that is rubbed on the outer ear) and the vet can prescribe.

I have a one-eyed cat and my friend has a blind cat. Totally do-able, but I hope the vet can determine that this cat's sight will be OK. Good luck and keep us posted.

Avery Avery .... thanks for your response. I'm convinced this cat is afflicted with some sort of disease, not sure i should push it, we'll see for sure after vet visit in the AM, provided this poor kitty even makes it back...yes, he's in that bad of shape.

Wow! Ok, I think you can try to put food for him to eat. He may be afraid as this place is new to him and he may not eat. Otherwise, he could be unwell and therefore not eating. Since it's the next day he's going to the vet, I think it's ok if he's not eating at the moment.

We'll be here waiting for the results sager the vet's visit.

Thank you again for your kind heart in taking this kitty in. I think Bug, Mav and the gang won't mind it.

tabbytom tabbytom this cat is sick or has been hurt, he's THAT bad. We just don't know. We may need to euthanize him, all based on vet prognosis. First scan for a chip, followed by med testing. I'm not rich either, limited in funding.
I'll get back tomorrow with results.

currently, he's at the vet, awaiting blood testing, exam and chip check, all i can afford at this time. Decisions to be made upon the results.

Re: Mav...doing really fine, (though displaced with receipt of the new cat) eating early brekkie with the crew is his new norm. Seems his socialization near complete.

Here's a switch...I frequently let Bug outside in morning for a few minutes (his normal grass eating) Did so this morning and witnessed Mav looking out the glass back door at Bug......the exact opposite of what transpired previously when the roles were reversed. Gave me an inner chuckle.

So glad this new guy could be seen by the vet this morning. Fingers crossed that he will be OK.
It is great that Mav is fitting in so well! I hope he and Bug can be buddies!

blood test and x ray all negative, Doc suggested a specialist ($$$$) would be needed to pinpoint cause. We agreed that the cat may have gotten into a poison or somesuch. Situation left me with no choice but to put him down. Needless to say, I'm upset.
