I found fiddleheads at the generally lousy supermarket today. They're in decent shape, more brown ends that I would like but those can be trimmed off. I'll boil them first and then saute them in butter and garlic. Hopefully I won't get sick  Fiddleheads contain a toxin which is removed if you boil or steam them first. The fiddleheads will go along tahini chicken.

I have never had fiddlehead ferns! I think I saw them; maybe twice, in my lifetime, at the store.

What do they taste like? I imaging them to taste, "grassy"~~ almost like asparagus. :ruminating:

They have a mild asparagus-like taste. I followed Martha Stewart's recipe so I shouldn't get sick :crossfingers:

The independent market used to sell fiddleheads every spring. It's getting late in the season for fiddleheads so I don't think the farmer's markets that are opening this month would have them.

Lunch was itty bitty chicken and smiley potatoes...again. I've gotten addicted! Supper will be shepherd's pie.

OH...Suzanne called me, FUMING! She went to her doctor, and was bragging about being on a totally gluten-free diet. Her doctor informed her that gluten-free diets are not really healthy for those who do not have some form of celiac disease, and to add limited gluten back to her diet, immediately. I don't know how she missed all the articles about that. I see them regularly.

Idk why you'd want to be gluten free if you don't have to be. I had to get gluten-free buns at a few restaurants before we passed baked milk because their regular ones weren't dairy free, and they were not that good.

Last night we had a baked hot dog, split almost in half, mashed potatoes down the center and a small amount of cheese.Haven't had them in awhile and they were really good.I also had sliced cucumbers with sliced sweet onion with a little oil and vinegar.
