I made a big mistake and ate a sample at Trader Joe's late this afternoon. It was vegetarian but I didn't realize until I read the ingredients it had sour cream in it. I can have dairy but not anything too rich or heavy. Obviously it did not agree with me so dinner will be something light and bland.

OK, guys...I was downed by a vicious tummy virus, missed four days, and am playing catch up like a mad thing! My forefinger is actually sore from purraising in other long threads, so ALL of you consider yourself purraised from my last purraise forward!

Tonight is chicken and rice soup with crackers...again! I'm going to attempt "real food" tomorrow. Not tonight.

I'm so sorry to hear you were not feeling well. :hugs: I hope the worst is over and you are feeling a little better each day.:crossfingers:

Tonight's dinner was the very last of the pasta leftovers plus a side salad with fresh veggies. I had a few more pieces of my dark chocolate hazelnut bar and a honey crisp apple for dessert.

I'm having comfort food:

A mason jar half full of pinto beans, then mashed sweet potatoes, then topped with cornbread batter and baked in the oven.

They reheat well in an oven too. I put mason jars filled with warm food in a six-pack cooler lined with reflectix for picnics this time of year or else bring a thermos of soup.

I"m thinking another bowl of chicken and rice soup. No, I feel fine, if still a bit tired, but...it's very November outside. Cold (well, North Carolina cold, not Wisconsen cold), gray and windy. Good night for comfort food. I think I'll also turn my electric fireplace on. It doesn’t heat, but just watching the "flames" flicker makes things seem warmer and brighter.

The recipe calls for cilantro and lime but I left them out.
Did you know that when a person perceives cilantro to taste like soap, it's genetic? Now, lots of people just don't care for the taste, but when it tastes like actual soap? You inherited that.

Tomorrow I'm making a recipe from the new Half Baked Harvest cookbook, Thai Basil Beef. It sounds complicated but it's not. Basically the ground beef is cooked with all the spices and sauces and then added to cooked rice noodles. I found quite a few easy (for me) recipes in the cookbook :yess:

I never liked cilantro growing up. I remember tasting a few leaves when I was like 3 and hating the very strong taste. It wasn't soapy, just strong herb-y tasting. I like cilantro now.

rubysmama rubysmama -Do you still have that protein chart? I'm trying to remember all the different foods with protein. I've been vegetarian for a week now and it's going well.

Last night I had a veggie burger out of a box, Price Chopper brand. I think I should make my own veggie burgers. These are rather bland. They were okay when I added a pinch of salt. They are soy-free, made with a bunch of veggies & chickpeas in them.

I had Heinz baked beans in tomato sauce on the side, the ones rubysmama rubysmama recommended. I love them! They are less sweet than regular baked beans, more savory.
