After I got my staples out, my mom and I had to stay gone because dad was putting in a new toilet, since I broke the old one. This one is taller.

We went shopping at several stores. Aldi is so cold! Somebody should have told me to wear a coat! Price Chopper was really cold too, but not as cold as Aldi, I thought I was in a freezer. I zipped around the store and jotted down a few things in a little notebook that sounded interesting, that I can go back and buy later with a coat or sweater on. :eek3:

I went to the outside aisles where the fresh foods are first, but my mom tried to lead me to the packaged stuff! But I finally ended up convincing her to get some fresh peaches, nectarines, apples, bananas. I can get more later from my list. She did buy some canned peas, which I do like, but maybe I can rinse the salt off them?

Walking around the stores really helped me to feel healthy. I really enjoyed it. Then for dinner we went to a diner. She let me choose my dinner, which was a miracle. She had a Spanish Omelet with home fries. I had a Veggie Omelet. She didn't even comment when I put ketchup on it! :cheerleader:

M maggiedemi ,
Glad that your are eating normally and well and (this part is meant from my heart).......................and not on a staple diet............(JOKE: just a joke......hope not offensive. Meant to be absurdly funny, as is my sense of humor). Me too, same as @tarasgirl06

Just trying to lift your spirit. Glad that you are feeling better!

You can get frozen peas too; they have a better texture than canned peas. Almost every fruit and vegetable comes frozen, and is as nutritious as fresh because it's flash-frozen (although the texture usually isn't the same as fresh, especially with fruits). Buying frozen really helps if you can't shop often enough to keep a lot of fresh fruits and veggies around. If you don't like the texture after they thaw out, you can toss them in the blender and make smoothies.

We need salt to live, so don't go too crazy about it, but processed foods have TOO MUCH salt. Same with sugar and fat. Everything in moderation.

Ha! Staple diet! It took me forever to get it, I'm not good with jokes.

Almost every fruit and vegetable comes frozen,
I'll have to sample a bunch of different frozen veggies then. Asparagus would be great.

Neat dream. Lol Get lots of rest.
foxxycat foxxycat was there in my bedroom again last night, watching over me. It seemed so real. Guardian angel? :D

sugar snap peas
Thanks, I'll try some. :)

What are you doing up?
I don't sleep well here at the back of the house alone since I got injured. I guess that's why I'm imagining people with me. Demi is being naughty, playing with my computer wires. Now he's up on the kitty highway sharpening his claws on my wall paneling. :headshake: It's nice to see him playing again though. :)

This is probably way too much info, but I love our new toilet. It is definitely a tall person's throne. I don't know much about toilet models, but it's very tall, white, and says American Standard.

Yes, they come in different heights as well as different bowl shapes- round or elongated. When I replaced our old ones, I went with the tall model as well.
The nurse yesterday said I'm actually taller than 5'9, but not quite tall enough to be 5'10.

Oh another thing I have is high blood pressure. The nurse seemed concerned, but they want me to get my own doctor to treat those type of things. I have to fill out my entire family medical history. My mom is the only one with that info, so I have to see what day she can go with me this week.

Weird fact: Tylenol doesn't work for most people. I'm one of them.
Tylenol Isn't So Safe, But At Least It Works, Right?
That article is really disturbing! We have had Tylenol around the house since we were teenagers, and we were always allowed to take them for headaches anytime we wanted, even the extra strength ones. Do you think my liver is okay? :eek2:

South Asian food can be paint-strippingly hot, but doesn't have to be.
I found some spicy kimchi at Price Chopper. I've always wanted to try it. I don't know how to actually cook with it though. I didn't buy it of course.

Given what you have been through recently, I'm not surprised that your blood pressure is elevated.
Maybe my blood pressure will go down on it's own or with my better nutrition. If not, I guess I'll have to be treated for it. I don't really want to take meds for it forever like my dad, he has high blood pressure also.

At one of my most recent doctor visits, my blood pressure was in the 150s, but this was right after climbing 2 flights of stairs to get to the office. They had me monitor my bp twice a day for 2 months until my follow-up visit. It varied anywhere from the 140s down to the teens, and this for a guy in his 70s. Needless to say, no meds were necessary. Dang! There goes another kickback from the drug companies.

M maggiedemi you know I would jump in the ring to defend you...it's kind of my signature :redtongue:
I beat up bullies as a kid..:yess:
I looked forward to it...cause we know all bullies hate being shown that they don't scare me...and they slink away like the snake they are....:goldstar:

I took a stroll in Trader Joe's yesterday after work..I was on teh look for a cooked chicken and 1 pound of spinach. I found neither. The prices were EXPENSIVE

I don't know how anyone can afford to shop there...there were a few things that weren't too bad in price but the spinach they had was 3 bucks for a tiny bag of leaves...I eat a huge bowl of spinach nuked in the microwave for 3 minutes with my chicken..the 1 pound tub gives me 4 meals. So I went to Market Basket and saved a ton of money on same things..only thing is produce at market basket is no where's good as Hannafords or Shaws. So I try not to buy short term foods there but their meats are good.

I am glad you got some sleep. Jon has high blood pressure and when he walks daily and cuts out high sodium foods, it goes down into the 130s/80s otherwise it's 140-150/100 so he was determined to not take meds...so DOWN the road=like a month or two you can start thinking about maybe joining a yoga/workout group or something in the area 2 times a week to help-there's programs at hospitals and doctors offices to introduce people into healthy life styles. I would ask the social worker you dealt with if there's any reduced rate programs for you to look at. This is down the road...but for now enjoy your fresh fruit..tell your mom that God invented fresh foods to heal our bodies...maybe she will wake up. :ruminating:

Great minds think alike! I was going to suggest some form of exercise or physical activity when the doctor gives you the okay. Here's a helpful link:
10 drug-free ways to control high blood pressure

I have to fill out my entire family medical history. My mom is the only one with that info, so I have to see what day she can go with me this week.
Or is it possible to get the form(s) in advance, fill them out at home and bring them with you? Or better yet fill them out on the computer so she is not in the room at your doctor appointment. Many doctors prefer that you fill the forms out on-line ahead of time so that they have your information and can review it before your appointment.
