Right on. Lamb and mashed potato crust is shepherd's pie. use Ground beef with mashed potato topping and it becomes a cottage pie.

Tonight we're having shrimp saute / braised with soy sauce and lime juice, steamed asparagus, and white rice.

I need leftovers for tomorrow's outing to the Philadelphia flower show - 3 extra shrimp, 6 extra spears of asparagus. Beet chunks cooking in the toaster oven. Need to have pretty colors for my bento box.

Well, that's supper planned! I'll break out the griddle.
I don't have a griddle, so I just used a regular non-stick frying pan, but they turned out pretty good. :yummy: I made them from scratch, using this recipe: Perfect Homemade Pancake Recipe

I halved the recipe, so ended up with 6. As I ate one, while the others were cooking, only 2 ended up on my plate. I think I'll freeze the other 3 for another day. I topped them with real maple syrup and strawberries. :yummy:

This is the second supper I am attempting in my 'new" senior residence..

The first one was mac and cheese and a salad.. dumped it...

Today was a chicken salad plate, with salad and pita bread... dumped it again!!

The chicken salad was not bad.. needed some more salt and pepper and perhaps a bit of real mayo.. but after 2 tiny bites, I decided NOT to doctor it up... I discovered the funny taste... in the back of my throat.. in addition to a ton of raw onions...yuck...celery, I can see. but raw onions--yuck..

Why do they feel they can add raw red onions to everything???? I cannot eat raw onions!!!

I ended up with the salad, without onions-picked out.. and the pita bread...

It seems that all the food has a 'strange' flavor to it... must be in the kitchen..

I decided that I am going to try the food for an entire week, before I discontinue it.. at least I can say I tried...

Tomorrow is a baked chicken leg and salad.. yuck--more onions.. Have to make the choices up, a week before. I did not realize the excessive amount of raw onions.. probably to mask the funny taste..

I did order a chicken breast for another day.. forget what I ordered the day in-between...

Friday, I also ordered a sweet potato, and some green beans.. wonder how that will be... I take a tiny taste and wait.. and see how it goes down...

It is too bad, but they do not buy quality food... I would rather just add the price of the food into the cost of rent... At least I do not have to pay for electricity, heat, or water.. it is all included.. and is so much less than the rent I was paying....

Good and bad.. need to seriously adjust to severely downsizing...

Geoffrey seems happy---except for the barking dog, next door.. He is the ONLY dog in this building of 270 units which acts this way.. The owner is oblivious..
I tried talking to her.. she said to ignore him!!! OMGosh.. how does that help me?

anyway.. I may end up filing a formal complaint. I will see how ti affects me, and Geoffrey.. hate to start out on the wrong foot.. but.. if she cannot controls her own dog.. then why should I have to deal with it?

HIJACKED Thread!!!

Wow artiemom artiemom You're not having a lot of luck with your meals. I hope they get better for you. As for the barking dog, it's not fair to anyone to have to "ignore" the noise. You may have to file a complaint....and do not feel badly if you do.

I used the air fryer tonight for dinner. I peeled and sliced some russets to do some French "fries" in the air fryer. Seasoned a couple bone-in chicken thighs and threw them in the fryer basket for 15 minutes @390, then threw the fries in the basket above the chicken basket and continued for another 15 minutes. Took the chicken out and put it in the microwave to keep warm, then did the fries another 10 minutes. A bit of malt vinegar, just a very wee bit of kosher salt and some ketchup, and dinner was served. No oil, other than a spritz of Pam canola spray on the basket holding the chicken.

We really love using the air fryer. Rick just loves these fries.

Would it be too difficult for you to shop and prepare your own food? I have certain preferences when it comes to meals so it would be tough for me to eat food someone else was cooking too.

On a positive note, I'm thrilled to hear Geoffrey is adjusting to his new surroundings. Do you think it would be possible to check with your other neighbors to see if the barking disturbs them? That way you could file a group complaint instead of a solo one.

I had a healthy and appetizing lunch for pancake day so will have a light dinner tonight.

Are the meals included in your rent? I'm surprised that they use so many raw onions in everything. Some people have a hard time digesting them.

I'm having a breaded pork cutlet, some potato salad and some broccoli.

People have been complaining about the food for years.. either you complain, or you just think of it as something included in your rent..

Yes, i can shop for my own food. Not much storage space.. and kitchen is tiny. But it can be done..

We'll see what the chicken is like... tonight..
