LTS3 LTS3 Chicken drippings on rice casserole is a big no-no for any vegetarian. :nono:
I thought so. The recipe comment was from several years ago and didn't say anything else other than the (supposed) vegetarian family member loving the rice. If there was an option to reply to a comment I would point about that the rice is not vegetarian because the chicken cooks directly on top of it:nono: Maybe some people are confused on what exactly vegetarianism is:dunno:

Stir fry, because we had Chinese last night and we can't get enough of that wonderful stuff. :bliss:
Lots of rice, beef, onions, peppers, and green onions will make this a good one!
OH GOD THAT SOUNDS GOOD...I wonder how teryaki stir fried hot d...never mind.

Is it possible for some vegetarians to be less strict on the diet than others?
There are as many permutations of "vegetarians" as there are varieties of Christians. Strict vegetarians, such a muffy muffy wouldn't consider a lot of them to be vegetarians at all, but who am I to judge? I'm a failed Vegan, having found out due to heart damage that I'm one of a scant handful of folks who MUST have animal protein, as we lack the enzymes that convert plant proteins to complete proteins. And no, soy is not "complete" for us.

I have no clue what I'm having tonight, but NEXT MONTH, when I do my shopping, at least one night will inclued shrimp and grits. Found a really good and easy recipe in one of my cozy mysteries.

The raw chicken is placed directly on the rice mixture in the pan and baked. The rice would absorb the chicken drippings and juice as the dish bakes. So the rice wouldn't be suitable for a vegetarian to eat, right? :headscratch:
I know others have already answered, but generally, the answer would be no. I wonder, though, if that family member is a kid/teen, and still eating what their parents cook, so compromises and eats the rice. Or, maybe doesn't even realize that raw chicken is placed on the rice before baking.

That's what I thought :headscratch: Is it possible for some vegetarians to be less strict on the diet than others? I vaguely recall an old co-worker who said she was vegetarian but occasionally ate chicken. Then there was the vegetarian co-worker who ate nothing but junk food with the occasional salad.
If they eat chicken, they are not a vegetarian. Possibly a pollotarian, but not vegetarian.

Yes, Italian. I dredged the chicken breast in flour and cooked it in bacon fat, so I went for a "healthy" dressing. With all the animal fat I use in cooking, I expect my arteries may look like toothpaste.
I purraised your post, but not because of your toothpaste arteries. Why don't you join us over on the veg*n side once in a while?

I eat a lot of junk food but I am still a strict vegetarian. I eat no meat or fish. What does junk food have to do with being a vegetarian?
Vegetarian/vegan diets are generally thought to be healthier than diets that include meat, so I think sometimes people think vegetarians don't eat junk food. We do. ;)
:yeah: Exactly!

In fact, if I go to a restaurant that serves burgers and the menu includes a veggie or black bean burger I will not eat it because it's cooked on the same grill as the hamburger meat burgers.
Maybe I'm a hypocrite, but I knowingly tried the new A&W Beyond Meat veggie burger even though I knew it is cooked on the same grill as beef burgers. I was so curious to know what it was like (it's delicious) that I convinced myself that there was no animal grease on the side of the grill my burger was cooked on. I know, pathetic.

It was a very poor decision on A&W's part, though, to promote a VEGGIE burger, when the fine print admits it's cooked on the same grill as meat. Hopefully they'll rectify that soon.

I think I mentioned this before but we have a friend that claims to be vegetarian except for McDonald's. I don't know how that works.
Maybe they just eat fries?

Oh yeah. A lot of people are. My job recently ordered in sub sandwiches for us. I asked the girl who was helping to set it up where they were getting them from. She said Publix (our local grocery chain) and then said they were getting italian, turkey and chicken. I asked what about the vegetarians? She said she was told that they got the turkey and chicken for them. :ohwell:  I told her that vegetarians don't eat any meat. She went and told this to whoever was in charge of it all and they ended up ordering one without any meat. Good thing I asked. They wouldn't have had anything unless they took one of the others and removed the meat. Depending on how strict they are, that may not have worked either. :runaround:

We have some vegetarian friends who are some of the best people we know. They don't eat meat, they don't wish to eat meat, but don't spend time telling me how my arteries are clogging or how we're a murders, even knowing what we do. Mutual respect is so rare and nice these days, and makes life so much more pleasant. :wave3:

Not sure about tonight, but it will probably involve a medley of chicken, broccoli, cheese, and rice if we're feeling bold. :cloud9:

I have no beef with soy (isn't that the most stupid thing you've ever read?:crackup::crackup::crackup:), but for me to be OK with soy it has to be prepared and fermented properly. It's a personal taste/preference thing.

Due to our own personal beliefs/way of life, there is no greater bane in our lives than factory farms. They do produce inexpensive meat that feeds large families on a budget, and I'm not judgmental and am no damn hypocrite, we do buy some sometimes if we can't supply the demand we need. But I do hate them and wish there were a magical way that food animals everywhere could be given some kind of an actual life before being turned into food.

Vegetarian/vegan diets are generally thought to be healthier than diets that include meat, so I think sometimes people think vegetarians don't eat junk food. We do. ;)

But if a vegetarian's diet is comprised of mainly junk / fast food with an occasional semi-healthy dish that's not a healthy diet :dunno: That former co-worker admits she pretty much eats just junk food and goes bar hopping every single night. And she eats calamari which she says isn't really meat:headscratch:

I hope I didn't start something by asking about vegetarian diets:paranoid:

Dinner came out pretty well. I'm going to pull an orange&white orange&white and post a picture;)

I think it could use some more oompf next time:think: Maybe some additional spices?

I wonder if people ever do that, make a mistake with a vegetarian's food and then just take the meat off without telling them.
I am sure they do. When I was vegan a co-worker told me that the soup she made did not have cheese. I ate the soup and then I got sick. She felt bad and then told me the soup did have cheese. I never trusted her again.

I am lucky enough to live in a very rural area, and can get my meat directly from small farmers whose animals all have names and are beautifully cared for up until the last moment, then dispatched quickly and as humanely as possible...well...except for the hot dogs...I am a vastly imperfect being.

And she eats calamari which she says isn't really meat:headscratch:
UM...Last I heard, squids are still part of the animal kingdom, although I loathe and despise them. Octopuses I like quite well, but something about squids just squicks me out. I eat meat, but the idea of gnawing on a squid...BLECH.

Tonight...Um. Dunno. I still have to boil all of that spaghetti...I only did one box, so I'll grab a can of something from the church box. Probably chili, which is surprisingly good for an "off" brand.

I have a big rule. I don't eat anything that's looking back at me.
Chili sounds really, really good. We put up a lot last year and we might bust into a few in the near future.

Leftover broccoli and chicken is becoming a nice smelling chicken pot pie stew with biscuits on the side.
If all goes well this will be hitting our test kitchen file. :crossfingers: It smells like awesome.
Dogs get a teeth cleaning meal of poultry necks and tripe, with some organ meat for additional vitamins. Poor cats get boring old grinds because I'm an idiot and forgot to thaw their nightly chunky foods that they look forward to. I suck. :(
