It is beautifully breezy in Ottawa today. A nice change from the past week with some record setting temperatures. Four hours from now will be the start of my weekend:) Have a fabulous Friday everyone.
Shane Kent Shane Kent - Wonderfully cooler here too; just touching seventy degrees right now, and even the fox was enjoying herself after dinner by rolling about on the back lawn. We're headed down to sixty tonight, and into the fifties tomorrow night, which will make the cats happy as well!

Shane Kent Shane Kent I lOVE that latest cat figurine!
Found a sleeping Monarch caterpillar among the various flowers on the ground, there is plenty of milkweed for the Monarchs growing among the flowers. I pull most of those early in the spring because they would take over but always leave plenty for the Monarchs of which I have seen quite a few this year, not only in the garden but also just fluttering around elsewhere.
This makes me really happy to hear!!

GO Mondo Whistle and Banjo!!

And a note, it turns out India isn't a total animal welfare desert. There are numerous organizations, not only on the front lines of it all but also several that provide funds/grants to those groups, including Blue Cross, HelpAnimalsIndia and Federation of Indian Animal Protection Organizations.

My time tonight is limited. My positive is not. Whistle and Banjo continue to stay together since Whistle has been recovering. The bond between the two is a beautiful thing to behold. It gave me such a good feeling I thought I would share it with all here. Banjo continues to take care of Whistle. She goes where he goes. We he needs to rest she comforts him. She washes him from head to toe with her paw cradling him. The look on his face is total relaxation. I am priviledged to get to see this kind of love and devotion. Kitties make me smile!

Honeybee on my lap, music playing in background
Love all the pictures! It finally cooled down yesterday. It was 86 when left work woth heat index 94 humid hazy yucky. At home it was 77 and very windy. We had some thunderstorms roll through around noonish pushed out the hot sticky weather.

Last night shut off air conditioner and opened window with fan on to cool it off in here.

Pumpkin face went for another laser therapy session last night. She's such a good kitty. Didn't act scared as much as she usually does. I parked all the way out back by some apple trees and enjoyed nice cool breezes after the session.

This morning it's 70 inside. Not sure temp outside...probably 60? Its sunny morning and got a Honeybeee deep in sleep on my belly. Haven't decided yet what to do today. Was going to head to a friend's house for party but I am not big on social gatherings....I am thinking a nice long bike ride instead....solitude recharges my batteries for some reason .

Same weather here, what a delight to turn off the A/C & ceiling fan and enjoy the lovely breeze last night. Luciano likes it too, since now he can smell the outside smells and get that much closer to the birds on the fire escape. There were six little sparrows out there Fri afternoon & he was glued to Bird TV.

Cats, solitude, cats, butterflies,

I haven't seen any hummingbirds these past couple days - I don't know if I'm simply not looking at the right moment (when they're in a hurry, they take all of approximately 3.6 seconds to zip in, catch a drink, zip out and gone)!, the fireworks caused them to flee the area and they're not back yet, they're having more --finch harassment than they want to deal with (gold--, house--..). or...?

However, I have seen baby robin practicing its balance and its flying - mama is doing a great job.

And, I didn't know it at the time but the neighborhood mourning dove pair hung out on the rooftop during the fireworks mayhem. o_O

No hummingbirds here either, I think it's too hot (finally! I thought summer would never get here) and the nectar in the feeder is probably too hot and/or turning into booze. I should take them down, wouldn't want drunk hummingbirds flying upside down.

I nearly drowned a bug this morning.

Again.

LOL

The backstory is that there was an impressively sized praying mantis living in the front yard flower bed last year. Time went on, it became pretty good at avoiding the regular water deluge from Bumbling Human, and she (as it turns out) eventually produced a very carefully constructed, enclosed nest/egg sac, somewhat similar to a cocoon. In her case she used the underside of a wall 'stone'.

Along comes Bumbling Human and in the process of moving the stone next to the one she used, nicked the very end of the nest. I was just sure I'd ruined everything.

Again time goes on, nothing changes until very early this spring, and I find that the egg sac is deflated and again, I'm just sure that everything went awry.

I'm watering the flowers this am, and lo and behold, one of her offspring, half drowned before I finally saw it, giving me the evil eye and talking badly about my ancestors

We usually have praying mantis in my petunia planter. I don't know where they nest. I just spotted one this week! The do give a mean stink eye!

My Petunias runneth over:

In other garden news; I picked these guys last night and put most up in the freezer today. I saved a few for dinner tonight. I'm going to sautee them in olive oil with garlic! I put 5 bags in the freezer but a few aren't as full as I hoped. They will be good to toss in stews and things though.

I may try to freeze a few bags of zucchini and summer squash too. That should be ok for soups, stews and chili. I'm not really up for making pickles or filling the freezer with zucchini breads.

Jcatbird--- love the pics of Banjo washing Whistle. I don't think any of my cats ever bathed each other, except for the 2 mother cats with their kittens.
Foxxy--- great pics of Demi's girlfriend Honeybee. :D
My positive for today is humor. I don't know if it was because it was Friday and everybody was in a good mood. But I really enjoyed all the jokes and funny stories last night on this site. I haven't laughed that hard in a long time. It was good for the soul after a stressful week. If you have a funny story or joke, please share it, no matter how silly. I appreciate you guys. :redheartpump:

We're headed down to the fifties tonight, and our high for the day was in the mid-seventies. Your hummingbirds probably hopped a fast freight to get out of the heat, and came to cool, sunny Olcott Beach, because they're everywhere today; it's like that old Hitchcock film, but with pointier noses!

Caveat: they love the native Spirea, and one needs only sit there for about 35 minutes, anxiously awaiting the chance for a (semi) blurry photo.

What a fun photo!! I've never even tried to get a picture LOL

I had the opportunity to get this one this morning - it reminded me of another shot I missed of a robin, having just bathed, on a roof with its wings splayed out on the shingles letting the sun dry the moisture - and also probably helping to chase off some mites...this butterfly was doing something of the same thing after getting splashed by sprinkler water.
Gorgeous things, birds and butterflies alike!

Happy Saturday everybody.

Beautiful day, Karen is working on her laptop (photos) and I am chilling with cats.
Shane Kent Shane Kent - Chillin' with the cats is never a bad thing! Have you ever seen this "sculpture" in Lewiston, Idaho?

I just ran across it, and it made me kind of sad. All those canoes, welded together... that just wasn't their intended purpose.

...a metal wave, kinda fun and very unique in an odd way. Or it's a reclining dragon LOL
Or it's depicting a bird of prey --at the back of the top of the sculpture, landing on, or maybe taking off from, a pile of rocks jutting out from a shoreline :D.

My positive for this post is that I saw the first rainbow of the summer.

The clouds pour eastwards off the Rocky Mountains, and when the timing and conditions are right, the sunlight picks out the colors of the moisture. It was quite dim/faded and only half a bow, so I didn't take a photo but my guess is that it's telling of good things to come :yess:

I am laughing. A visual from this thread. An upside down and tipsy hummingbird? If anyone sees one, please take a pic. Hopefully a happy hummingbird!
Love the Praying mantis stories! They do seem to watch us.
Butterflies, flowers, peppers and happy cats! Beautiful weather, rain and rainbows. What a varied and wonderful world. It is pouring rain here and most of the cats are napping. All is quiet except for the rain on the roof.
Whistle finally showed a little energy today and investigated the latest rescue kittens as they played. I couldn’t let him join but he seemed to enjoy just watching. The kittens put on quite a show for him. Almost seemed that they liked having an audience. Banjo took the time to consider a painting on the wall. I have no idea what drew her attention to it. I examined it to see if there was a bug or something but I found nothing. I don’t know if she has become an art critic or considered attempting to climb the tree in the painting. I am awfully glad she didn’t try!

Lots of positives today, including Whistle eating a little better. Yay!

Nice posts, all! I realized I haven't posted on this thread for a few -- mainly because we're trying to endure the BLAZING heat -- but the PAWSitive part is that we are. Enduring it. And thanks to my 3 favorite cat-themed weather apps, I knew to get the heavy physical work done beforehand, so now I'm climbing the walls because I can't do stuff, work out, etc., but at least that work is done, the house is clean, and this heat has GOT to end sometime. :fireblob:

tarasgirl06 tarasgirl06 Please take care and be safe, I've been watching the wildfires and "blazing heat" on the news. :hugs:

My pawsitive news for today is that DH and I spent five hours walking in the windy city and along the Riverwalk with the exception of stopping for lunch. The temps were perfect to eat outdoors and we took advantage of the glorious weather. I don't have a fitbit or keep track of my steps but if I did I'm sure there would be quite a few. :walk:
