Sam Can't Walk

Just thought I would post a quick update. Sam was given another week of Buprinex for pain and I am happy about that because I was afraid of switching him to Metacam. His legs are still not showing any more improvement yet. I am pretty certain his problem is his legs and not in his back because when I play with him now he rolls around on his back with no problems. He seems totally normal until he tries to stand up or walk.
Next week my days off will be taken up with my partner's doctor appointments but I think I will be taking him for an mri the following week.

I just thought I could add my two cents here. Have you thought of trying physical therapy? I currently have a paralyzed kitten, he has been going to therapy since January and since then I have seem many cases where therapy has helped with pain management not only for my kitten, but also for many other cats and dogs. I have even seen it used on a cat who could not pee, and after just one session the cat was peeing on his own.
There are many options for therapy, including laser and magnetic therapy, which is what my kitten is receiving. He has been off medications after a few weeks of therapy, twice a week. I know for a fact that it does help with pain and to regain mobility because I have seen it with my kitten and with other patients at the vet where we go. It might be worth investigating if it could be useful in your case.

Update
Sam has improved so much! His walking is sooo much better. And sometimes he is even running. His leg very rarely gives out on him now and on the few occasions that it has, it doesn't seem to be causing him any pain. He will just lay for a second and then hop right back up and continue on his way. It has been 4 days since his last dose of pain meds and he seems pain free. He was self-limiting his movement for a long time but now he has started to use the pet steps again (which I'm happy about) and occasionally jumping up on the couch (which scares me to death for fear of re-injury).
I haven't been able to get an MRI yet. (My partner's many tests and doctor appointments have taken up all my days off and she goes in for surgery to remove a mass next week) So with the improvements I have seen in Sam, I think he will be OK to wait a couple more weeks to see a vet.
He seems to get better every day now!

It is going across her uterus and an ovary - they haven't been able to determine which it is attached to. They will be doing a total hysterectomy when they remove the mass. It is growing at a very fast rate and now causing other issues. We will know a week after surgery if it is cancerous or not. Fingers crossed it is just an abnormal fibroid.

Wait a second, am I missing something? I thought Sam is a male cat. You have been calling the cat, "he" and "him". Now "he" has a uterus? Very possible I am missing something, please explain. I'm feeling stupid but confused. Thanks so much

Sam has continued to improve. He runs and plays all the time now. He doesn't jump very often though, and when he does it is a very short distance. I haven't given him any more pain meds because his lack if jumping seems to be out of caution rather than discomfort. He was scheduled to have a recheck with the vet next week, but I have to cancel that because my partner has a doctor appointment at the same time.
My partner has not been doing well. There was more cancer than originally thought, complications occurred during surgery, and now more complications post-surgery.
They are doing another CT scan tomorrow for a possible 2nd surgery.
It would be so nice to have EVERYONE healthy and happy again. Fingers crossed that day is coming soon!
