Thank you R raysmyheart , but it's not until Friday!

We're just enjoying a relaxing morning.

I need to go to the gym today. It's positive that I have the time to do it this week!
Oh, Friday! Well, I guess Speedy and I got a little overexcited because it's Lelia! The picture of Lelia stretched out in front of the tv, with her head pointed directly at the action on the screen is just so wonderful! It looks like she is truly enjoying the show! Sorry about the mix-up, I will have to remind Speedy to keeps better control of her calendar.;)

We are having very mild rain in central Massachusetts that is sure to be good for just about everything green.

Rhubarb is hardy, it actually is native to Central China where it gets really cold (Kiwis are native to Northern China along the Yangtze River and the China East Coast!! Surprise, not New Zealand!) so you should not have to cover it because it's a little chilly at night. The Victoria kind of rhubarb has been adapted to California. Once rhubarb is established it will come back every year for decades, it just needs dividing every 5 years or so with a spade. It does need lots of water and plenty of fertilizer. When my daughter bought her house in Montana the yard was full of it and she hates rhubarb, so she pulled it all up, the house had been unoccupied for over a year so you can see that the rhubarb needed no care and still flourished. The reason mine died last fall is because I had been ill and the poor things did not get enough water, the person who was kind enough to water my garden at all did not know just how much water the rhubarb needed and so it dried up and died. This year I am putting in a drip system.
If you have been trying for several years to grow rhubarb I'd like to know what you are doing wrong as they are so hard to kill.
I suspect my problems are from a combination of heat and very sandy soil. It has done pretty well in the spring; but not enough to harvest any. I didn't expect to the first few years. I water at least once a day and I have mulched and laid bricks around the bed to help retain some moisture. I thought I had killed the smaller crown but it's coming up nicely right now.

I'm feeling very pawsitive this afternoon. My physical therapist said I'm done after next week! :woohoo: I really need a few less things to do in my weeks!

No snow for you today 1CatOverTheLine 1CatOverTheLine ? We had it coming down, but Pawsitive is that it didn't stick. High winds are still going on, but are expected to let up in a couple of hours. Staying cozy inside watching the live wrestling match in my living room. Boys!

donnae donnae - In the end we had bright sunlight with rain falling concurrently, hail, sleet, a smattering of snow, a precipitous [chortle] drop in temperature, and at least one 59 mph wind gust. The good news: NO OOBLECK -

- and no sky falling!

No houses landing on crotchety old neighbors in fancy slippers either? That's what I was looking for today. :paranoid: Although I did have short people singing and dancing around me. No flying monkeys either. :fear:

I managed a good nap this afternoon. That was nice!

tinydestroyer tinydestroyer - Holy moly - that's just amazing! Pendant Dendrobium superbum, yes? What cultivar - anosmum?
.
I'm actually not sure now. I didn't plant it myself, but inherited it with my current rental. The previous tenant was a prolific gardener, and I must admit, I'm not doing their work any justice. A friend of mine said it was wisteria, but a quick search of pendant dendrobium superbum shows that it's in the orchid family. It definitely looks like it's cane rather than vine, but again, that is to my quite amateur eye.

tinydestroyer tinydestroyer What a beautiful pic you share with us. Is that jasmine in the background? Jasmine is a favorite of mine, in all its permutations.
tarasgirl06 tarasgirl06 i think you're right about the background flower being jasmine, but I'm only identifying it by smell. It's really quite heavenly, and almost mysterious! This is what it looks like up close:

Being able to smell sweet spring blooms always sends my heart a-flutter!

Definitely jasmine. Looks like it got a bit crisped on the leaves last summer. Gorgeous! Right now I have double citrus perfume -- from my dwarf Valencia orange and dwarf grapefruit. Wild roses are blooming, too, so it's a Paradise of perfumes outside.

Our weather has finally settled down here, and we now have snow falling lightly as midnight approaches.

Speaking of midnight, that means that it's April fifth - birthday time again for my two sweet boys, Lance and Peanut. Time surely flies when you're having fun, and since 1997, these two boys have brought nothing but fun into my Life! Happy twenty-first birthday, boys - now you can buy your own beer!

Norachan Norachan - It depends on the product. The wood stain / preservative that I use at the cottage on the deck has do not let it get frozen on the can. It is water based. I keep it in the cottage in the fall and take it home when we close down the cottage for the winter. I think with an oil based stain you would be OK provided you stir it a lot and the can was sealed well.

I had a co-worker build another co-worker a little dog house for his small dog. It got finished this morning. It should cheer up my co-worker as he loves his dog and has been a little depressed lately.

Norachan Norachan and donnae donnae and R raysmyheart - Lance and Peanut both say, "thanks," for your kind wishes, and Peanut asks, "I don't suppose that any of you would hand a few extra treats, would you?" Lance also wants to remind everyone whose kitty or kitties are celebrating birthdays - either past, present or future - to add their photos to the Birthday Cats thread:

♥ The ♥ Birthday ♥ Thread ♥

Our little storm passed over last night, leaving bright blue skies and just a few high cirrus clouds. There's absolutely no question about Spring being in swing here, and the bird feeders are the place to be - assuming that you're a bird, of course! Minutes ago, as I finished my last cup of coffee, there were Blue Jays, Cardinals, Purple Finches, Goldfinches, a Redpoll, a pair of Indigo Buntings, Red Bellied Woodpeckers, Hairy Woodpeckers, a Downy Woodpecker, Nuthatches in abundance, a Flicker, and countless, "brown birdies," as the cats refer to them. If you watch the ivy below the feeders, you can catch glimpses of voles, mice and shrews, darting back and forth to pick up the seeds scattered by the birds above them.

The duck is nearly thawed and ready to be set on the fowl rack and popped into the oven when I return this afternoon, and Lance, Peanut and their nine companions should all have a fine dinner to celebrate their Friends' twenty-first birthday!

Happy :party3:21st :dunce: Birthday, :gift: Lance and Peanut :party2:
Enjoy the gourmet birthday dinner !

The evening sun has been generous today; I enjoyed sitting on the patio after a busy day at work. Spring is definitely the season of renewal; buds and the blossoms are changing day by day.

Magnolia flowers are very photogenic.

It's a Wisteria, not an orchid. You can see the empty curled-up seed pod behind the flower that looks like a pea pod and that is what a Wisteria has. Wisterias are a vine which can be trained into a tree and they can get to be humongous if not pruned. They look lovely on a trellis or over an arbor and come in various shades of purple which bloom every year. There is also a yellow variety, one grew in a neighbor's yard when I lived in WA.
I don't know what this is called.jpg

tarasgirl06 tarasgirl06 , your Paradise parfums sounds wonderful! Those are my favorite scents, citrus and wild rose and it must be beautiful. I think the first very fragrant flower to bloom in my yard will be the lilacs which usually can be depended to bloom the first week of May, here in central Massachusetts.

I love lilacs but they are very hard to grow here. There is a botanical garden not too far from here where there are some and I have read of a few individuals who have them in their backyards. That was one thing that I loved when I lived in WA.

I can practically smell their scent just looking at the picture.
