Oh my God I am just sick. The tabby cat I got yesterday was in a tru catch trap in my garage last night. Well he/she knocked out over and got out... I'm hoping it is still in my garage and we can retrap it.. however my house is old and there are lots of little places for a feral to squeeze out.

Only a few miles away but its across a river so it would have to go over a busy bridge to get back so I am skeptical...

Oh no!

He's probably going to be very trap shy now, but it would be good to know where he is hiding. Here's a trick I read on a thread about a cat that went missing inside a large house: Leave some food out in the middle of the room/garage and sprinkle some plain flour all the way around the edge of the room. That way if the cat comes out to eat you will see paw prints and be able to work out where his hiding place is.

Hope he is still in there somewhere.

It is disheartening to think that if that cat is a girl that she might start a colony over here now. I have a trap set in my garage if he/she is still in there. We have two appointments for Thursday if we do catch him/her today, and if not we can try catching two more cats today... getting two other cats spayed/neutered would make me feel a little better about it
:sigh::frustrated:

I will try the idea with the flour tomorrow, I think that the chances are good that the cat has left the garage... I might start setting a trap outside of my house on nice nights and see if I can get it that way.. we have posted around the neighborhood for people to keep their eyes peeled... I am sure it will try to make it back to its colony but I doubt it will be able to cross the bridge/get across the river.
We did go trapping today, we got a boy at our Rolling Hills colony- so there are just two girls left! He is a beautiful long haired orange cat.
Then we went with another rescue to a new colony.. Going to call it the Scott Ave Colony. 6 cats here we believe, the rescue just TNR'd one of the main mommas this week. We got one of the big Tom Cats from there tonight as well. So two less baby makers after tomorrow! (As long as I don't lose one again :( ) I set some things on top of the traps this time to make sure they can't knock them over. I am going to buy some more clips so that I can double clip all of the doors.

Given the number of cats you work with and have helped, something like this is NOT unexpected. Horrid, but it happens! DO NOT eat yourself up over it. You are doing the very, VERY best you can do!

Leave some food out in the middle of the room/garage and sprinkle some plain flour all the way around the edge of the room. That way if the cat comes out to eat you will see paw prints and be able to work out where his hiding place is.
That's a bit of genius! I'm filing that away for future reference! I wonder if the idea came from the old ghost hunters, who would scatter flour in hopes of catching prints!

OH MY LORD! They look JUST LIKE DiCapprio and Fast Eddie! Those are two of the apartment complex's ferals. I've named them all. Our horrid city does NOT allow TNR. They trap and kill. Only.
