One of my pet peeves is when people don't admit they're wrong. It is so annoying when you try to explain something and at the end they are still like, no no I am right. Another one is goldfish and Bettas it in bowls. Goldfish should be kept in 20 gallon filtered tanks, and Bettas should be in at least 5 gallons heated and filtered. I just hate it when I see tiny puppies or any young baby animal, if I can see that it's a shelter or rescue one I'm fine but it's when I see tiny purebred puppies. In my area golden retriever are popular so I often see 8 week old puppies. It's not the fact that they are from a breeder but that they are taken so young from their mothers that the breeder must be unknowledgeable about breeding dogs, so therefore must be a backyard breeder. My friend recently got a golden retriever from a friend who was feeding them BREAD! I can't think of anymore major pet peeves, so that's it for now.

I am absolutely obsessed with freshwater fish. I completely understand your frustration with keeping fish in bowls! NO FISH SHOULD BE KEPT IN A BOWL! And just because the employee at petsmart said it was okay, doesn't mean it is! People need to do their research before getting any kind of pet! Ugh and I hate how people don't understand that they need to cycle the tank BEFORE they put the fish in it! Too often it happens that people set up a brand new tank, put fish in it and then complain when the fish die a week later!

:sigh:

I wish I had known that back in the day when I was a goldfish serial killer. We used to have carnivals at school and I used to win goldfish in little bowls by doing the ping pong ball toss. They never lasted long. I still feel bad about that. :sniffle:

I used to have a big fish tank full of goldfish when I was a kid.  Then we moved from the country to town and all the fish died within a few days.  It wasn't a very long drive - like 5 miles - but I guess it stressed them out too much or something.

That drives me bonkers. I see the tiniest puppies on the street that have been taken from the mother to sell because "they are so cute".

Feeling peevish today so here goes ...

1. Friends who chat to me on the street while holding a bag of their dog's excrement. Sorry, but I am very squeamish. Put the bag on the ground at least.

2. Friends who get pissy because I have a different POV from theirs. A friend/neighbor was upset on Saturday because my opinion was different from hers. So don't ask my opinion in future.

3. Counter-people who get pissy with customers. A local Dunkin Donuts always gets orders slightly wrong. I recently asked for a cream cheese bagel, which costs $1 more than a regular bagel. I was annoyed because no way did I get a dollar's worth of cream cheese on that bagel. I went back last week & asked the counter-person to show me how much cream cheese was on the bagel. Same thing again. I asked her to give me more & she had such a puss on her face as she gave me what she called "extra".

Wow.  For $1 more, I would just buy my own cream cheese and put it on myself!

Pet peeve:  leaving water in the sink and a sponge in the water after doing dishes!  I swear, I'm going to end up smothering my bf in his sleep!

A rare bird. A man who does dishes.

Advertisements are one of my pet peeves.  I feel like I am being constantly misled, even lied to.

People will say that they cannot say anything that is not true in advertisements.  I just quote some Maya Angelou at them and say, "There's a world of difference between truth and facts. Facts can obscure the truth."   That's a good description of advertisements, facts used to obscure the truth.

I will wear a mute switch out!

As I am a "counter person" at my family's restaurant, one of my pet peeves is when customers get pissy with employees over things that are out of their control.

The bagel thing: most restaurant employees are trained in a very particular manner. Meaning they are told exactly how much food to portion out. And going over said portion without charging the customer for extra could get them in trouble with their managers/boss.

You as a customer may think that there wasn't enough cream cheese on the bagel (a belief that you are entitled to), but I'm sure the counter person was just doing their job the way they were trained (although, admittedly, Dunkin Donuts does not have a good reputation as far as training goes. So the employee may have even been trained wrong).

On another note, I also get really annoyed when customers get mad that we don't offer senoir or military discounts. Don't get mad at the register person over prices. Just don't. They don't make the rules, nor can they change them to work around your circumstances. I once had a man in uniform cuss me out and then storm out of the restaurant because we didn't offer a military discount. Why don't people understand that just because I am standing behind the register, that that doesn't mean that I make the prices. I could get in so much trouble if I just gave someone a discount without having a coupon or something.

Another pet peeve of mine is when customers ask me what comes on certain menu items and then proceed to interrupt me while I am trying to explain what comes on said menu item. At least let me finish explaining before blurting out "Oh I don't want those!" Or "I don't like ____".

You would also be surprised by the endless stupid questions that you get asked as a counter person. I can't even tell you how many times I have had to anwer the question "What is the difference between a Taco and a Burrito?" Or "That taco doesn't come with Mayonnaise or tartar sauce on it does it?"(This usually gets asked right after I tell someone EXACTLY WHAT COMES ON OUR TACOS! DID I SAY THERE WAS MAYO OR TARTAR SAUCE ON IT? NO? THEN THERE IS NO MAYO OR TARTAR SAUCE ON IT! I mean SERIOUSLY who would want to put mayo or tartar sauce on tacos anyway? That's disgusting.)

Sometimes when customers ask questions like that I just want to be like Ben Wyatt from Parks and Rec. Put on a look that says "Are you serious?" And look into the proverbial camera.

Me too! In Japan bicycles are supposed to be on the footpath. I've been stopped by the police a few times and told off for riding on the road. So, as I have to ride on the footpath and as everyone in Japan knows that pedestrians and cyclist share the same space it really annoys me when people walk 3 or 4 abreast and ignore bicycle bells.

If you imagine riding on forest path and pedestrians being just trees to avoid, it becomes more manageable, but no, I'm not blasting on sidewalks million miles per hour, I'm constantly on brakes when there are pedestrians, it seems even in here they don't see, hear or think, so when you are passing they might all of sudden without watching jump to front of you and so far I have managed to avoid all accidents by being prepared and keeping my distance.

Now how on earth one would keep his/her distance in Japan, is a question for greater intelligence, there is so many people walking on sidewalks that it is more of riding into dense bushes than on forest path with few trees here and there.

Oh and still I sometimes use road when riding, when I'm going same speed or faster than cars, I just don't see any reason to ride on sidewalk, once police car came from opposite direction, they slowed down and yelled 60kph from window as I passed, that is a nice hill back from city to stretch legs a bit.

But that pedestrian issue comes from another peevee I believe, which is when people see only their own small bubble, when walking they don't pay attention what is around them and act because of that like if they would be alone in whole world, it can become so dense illusion that no bell all yelling comes trough the bubble.

Customer service is such a difficult job.
You sure have that correct! I have worked in retail for over 20 years. i can't tell you how many dumb questions I have had! Such as a customer standing in front of an 8x11 sign with the price of the item on it and asking "How much is this?" . That is the most frequent one. The dumbest one though has to be Do you sell flowers? You have to picture it - they walk past 2 displays of plants and flowers, 2 coolers full of cut flowers to the counter to ask this question. Then you have the customer trying to negotiate the price - I don't set the prices and this is NOT a car dealership - we sell flowers for goodness sakes! Another is the parent who comes into the store with kids and lets them run wild. I have had displays destroyed by unattended kids while the parents just go about shopping.  I have also had customers who are short on cash for their purchases ask me to make up the difference! I am not talking about a few cents here (I usually keep some pennies around for that) but a few dollars out of my own pocket - NO WAY!

I remember you posting before on this topic. It sounds like you don't really like your job or interacting with customers.

I know nothing about bubbles, but the bottom line is the sidewalk is for pedestrians only. 'Nuff said.

I enjoy my job, and I enjoy interacting with nice customers, but some people do/say things so stupid (I'll refrain from calling THEM stupid but. . .) that you wonder how they lived this long. And some people are just plain nasty.

That depends on location. When I was a kid we weren't allowed to ride a bicycle in the street (not just kids; everybody). And some walking trails are also bike paths. Both parties have to take measures for everyone to stay safe.

No, sidewalk is shared, cyclists and pedestrians should use it. Sure there are also bike paths and sometimes only pedestrian paths, but here it is same way as it is where Norachan lives.
