I think I have no understanding how to play this game even after reading the directions quite a few times- I click on the last letter and the purple word disappears when I find the next one- ?????

Oh really? Are you sure it's a purple word and not just a random word? Every word you make that is not one of the theme words gives you points towards a hint.
I thought the directions were very difficult to understand. My easiest explanation would be this.
- there is a theme in which all the words make sense.
- there is one main word you have to find, it will be yellow when found.
- you have to find all the other words that surround the main yellow word. These are blue when correct.
- all words you make that are not in the theme so not blue or yellow, will gather you points for a hint.

Yeah, connections is tricky like that. And more often than not, I don't solve it.

No, you don't need to find the yellow word first, but I think it will always be the "main" word of the theme.

I haven't played my games yet today, but I'll spoil for yesterday - the yellow main theme word was punctuation, and the blue words were things like comma and period. You can find them in any order!
