Why is this kitten constantly kneading?

I have a 5 month old kitten who is an outside kitty. I do let him in sometimes. When he's in, he is constantly kneading. He does this on my feet which really hurts. If he stops walking, he starts kneading on the floor. He can be sitting by the cat dish and he will start kneading before he starts eating. And of course he does it when you pick him up. Any ideas why he does this so much?

Does he have something like a blanket he can knead on outside? Really sounds like he wants to be with you

Interesting article. Of all the cats I have had over the years, I've never had one that does this to the extent that this one does.
He has a nice pile of old flannel sheets in the garage that he lays on.

The short answer is if he's doing it to that extent when he's inside then he likely wants to be around you rather than outside by himself.

Thing is, he is not outside by himself. He's there with several other cats. Two of them are his brothers. I see him out in the garage lots of times curled up with his brothers taking a nap. (All of them are fixed.)
