I foster failed this beautiful girl officially a week ago but my parents knew I was going to keep her the moment I showed them her pic months ago lol. She is a fluffy torbie like our first cat and is such a sweetheart. Her parents the lady we rescued these kittens from said they were both shorthairs, a grey tabby, and a flamepoint siamese. All her siblings are shorthairs, she is the only longhair. Her nose we arent sure if it's brown or orange because in different lighting its a different colour lol. Her undercoat is silver but the top is very black or dark orange. Though at 7 months when she gets her first adult coat would she change much? Fynn was grey/white and didnt change much at all as a kitten to a 1 year old adult. Jethro, on the other hand, changed quite a bit.

She's gorgeous! If the base of her hair is white, her color is silver patched tabby (silver torbie) and white. A full body side view would make it easier to identify her tabby pattern.

I think that's a mackerel or broken mackerel tabby pattern. Such a pretty girl!

She is lovely. I think she will have about the same coloring as an adult, maybe just a tad darker but most certainly quite beautiful.

She seems to keep getting lighter each day lol. Jethro actually got a ton more light brown in him now then when he was a baby. Here are photos of him at 2 months old, almost 4 months old, 1 year old, 1y 2 months And he is indoor only, he actually has a mix of grey in his coat now to. Fynn only slighty got darker but he is a solid grey/white but Jetty got a ton of light brown in him and some grey. Hence why I wasnt sure if she would change lol.

They are different colors, so they won't have the same development pattern. Jethro is brown tabby and white, while your new girl (does she have a name yet?) appears to be silver patched tabby and white. She has white at the base of each hair, correct? She might become lighter in color as the white undercoat grows in.

I guess it's possible that she is just a really "cold" and washed out brown patched tabby... but that pale undercoat really does make her look more like a silver patched tabby to me. Silver tabbies, especially longhairs, can have a sort of confusing patchy look to their coat when they are kittens and the coat is growing in... you might just have to wait and see how her color develops.

Lovely name, too :)

She is super cute!! :redheartpump:

Her coloring reminds me a little of Chilli, who also has a quite pale/cool undercoat, but isn’t silver. This is Chilli as a kitten and adult (sorry for bad photo quality in the baby pictures!). Chilli’s coat looks cooler in the winter due to more greyish undercoat fluff, and warmer and richer in the summer.

She is stunning!
Did your girl have a lot of grey as a kitten? Ceriah has a ton of grey/silver with brown stripes ( a ton of orange in her coat), here's her today at 4 months of age :)

FYI, "silver" and "grey" refer to different things when talking about cat colors. Maybe the following will help clear things up a little bit?

A silver tabby is a tabby cat with the "inhibitor" gene which causes the base of each hair (hair shaft) to be white instead of colored. Most tabbies have a beige, brown, or grayish brown hair shaft, but silver tabbies have a white (or nearly white) hair shaft and undercoat. The tip of each hair is unchanged, however, so for a regular silver tabby (the silver equivalent of a brown tabby), also known as a black silver tabby, the tip of the hair will be black, while the hair shaft is white.

Here is an example of a silver patched tabby American Shorthair so you can see the intense black and red hair tips. The ground color between the tabby stripes appears grayish, but if you were to look up close, you would see that each of the "gray" hairs has black bands of ticking on a white hair shaft. The base of each hair on this kitty's coat would be white.

A "smoke" cat is a solid colored cat with the Inhibitor gene. In this case, the tips of each hair will be full color, and the base of each hair will be white. Black smoke cats are a good example of how the Inhibitor gene turns the hair shaft and undercoat white. Here is a video of a black smoke cat that shows how the base of the coat is white. On some smokes and silvers, you might not notice the white undercoat unless you part the hairs and look at the base of each hair.

Gray / blue is different from silver. Blue is the dilute of black, caused by the recessive dilute (blue) gene. Your cat's mother appears to be blue tabby in color, not silver tabby or blue silver tabby. She has gray stripes on a gray-beige background. If you were to look at the hairs between her gray stripes, you would see a beige hair shaft with gray bands of ticking.

The Inhibitor gene is dominant, so if your cat is a silver tabby, she must have one silver or smoke parent. Since her mom doesn't appear to be silver, if your cat is indeed silver, her dad must have been silver. I can't tell from the pictures of the probable dad cat if he is silver or not, as it's difficult to tell from just the markings on his head. It is indeed possible for a cat to be both silver and pointed, so he might have been silver.

Hope this helps a bit in distinguishing the various terms, feel free to ask for more clarification :)

Comparing Ceriah (left) to Chilli (right), you can see how Ceriah's undercoat has a more "whitish" appearance in her pictures compared to Chilli. Since you can examine Ceriah in person, you can look at the hair shafts and see if they appear more "whitish" in color, or whether they look grayish beige like Chilli. Zoom in on Chilli's picture to see what the hairs look like where they are parted.

I didn’t have Chilli as a kitten, so I’ve just got pictures to refer by. But the greyish color is just in her undercoat. Your girl looks a bit lighter to me than Chilli.
