Our landlord had laid off us for a while about moving, and then last week decided to tell us we had 3 weeks to move out. We have a lease, and are current on our rent. His father had decided he didn't like the number of cats we have, even though they knew all about it before we ever moved in.
I called the Boulder Community Mediation Center last week, and they referred me to an attorney. They told me what he is doing is illegal.
Today, he sicced the County Sherriff on us.
Only, it backfired!
The woman from the Sherriff's office who came out to the house is a sweetheart. Her attitude is, "It's obvious that you guys are a rescue and are NOT hoarders. These cats are kept better than some people's children!" She has given us a contact at the state board of agriculture and has promised to vouch on our behalf to become a licensed rescue in the state of CO. This will allow us to live anywhere in the state, regardless of zoning laws about animals. It will cost us about a hundred dollars a year, and we will be subject to twice annual inspections.
And our landlord will have egg on his face!
Stay tuned...
