I have a 16 year old cat and whenever I cut her nails I’m seeing they are getting thick. I’m finding it hard to cut them. Last year I had to take her to the vet because one of the nails was looking like it was close to growing into her skin. Has anyone with older cats come across this?

thanks

Yes, the same is happening to my 12-year-old cat. I took her to the vet., who explained that this can happen in older cats.

Are you able to cut them yourself?

Yes, but you have to keep track of how thick the nail is getting and if it's starting to turn toward the pad of the paw. It's best for your vet. to tell you how to do it - I'm not the most adept at it!

Thank you. Of all the chores for caring for indoor cats I think trimming their nails is the worse ever…..I had to create a notebook with a section for each of my 12 cats so I can keep track of their nail trimming, etc.. lol
