Standin' on a corner,
Suitcase in my hand.
Jack's in his car, says to Jane, who's in her vest,
Me, babe, I'm in a rock n' roll band.
Ridin' in a Stutz Bearcat, Jim,
Those were different times.
And the poets studied rows of verse,
And all the ladies rolled their eyes
Sweet Jane, Sweet Jane, Sweet Jane
Now, Jack, he is a banker,
And Jane, she is a clerk.
And the both of them are saving up their money...
Then they come home from work.
Sittin' by the fire...
Radio just played a little classical music for you kids,
The march of the wooden soldiers
And you can hear Jack say
Sweet Jane, Sweet Jane, Sweet Jane
Some people like to go out dancing
And other people, (like us) they gotta work
And there's always some evil mothers
They'll tell you life is full of dirt.
And the women never really faint,
And the villans always blink their eyes.
And the children are the only ones who blush.
'Cause life is just to die.
But, anyone who has a heart
Wouldn't want to turn around and break it
And anyone who ever played the part
He wouldn't want to turn around and fake it
Sweet Jane

And a rebuttal was written, but Britney didn't want it so Rachel Stevens sang it instead - Sweet Dreams My LA Ex
That's a fun fact. And apparently it was written by singer Cathy Dennis who also wrote this song:

I just can't get you out of my head
Boy, your lovin' is all I think about
I just can't get you out of my head
Boy, its more than I dare to think about

Can't Get You Out of my Head by Kylie Minogue

So what I've heard is that Justin Timberlake's Cry Me a River is about his breakup with Britney
I didn't know they had been together. Weren't they Musketeers? and Christina Aguilera and some others?

The first time ever I saw your face
I thought the sun rose in your eyes
And the moon and the stars were the gifts you gave
To the dark and the endless skies
The first time ever I kissed your mouth
I felt the earth move in my hand
Like the trembling heart of a captive bird
That was there at my command my love
And the first time ever I lay with you
I felt your heart so close to mine
And I knew our joy would fill the earth
And last till the end of time my love
The first time ever I saw your face
Your face, your face

Wish on a rainbow is all I can do
Dream of the good times that we never knew
No late nights alone in your arms
I'll dream on

If I could change the way of the world I'd be your girl
Too many walls have been built in between us
Too many dreams have been shattered around us
If I seem to give up they'll still never win
Deep in my heart I know the strength is within

Too Many Walls by Cathy Dennis

I'm not sure...do wanting to get back together after a breakup songs count as break up songs?

I don't care. I haven't heard this in forever and reminded me of how much I love it.

Maybe "wanting to get back together" is a stage somewhere after "wanting to break his (or her) neck".

How do you teach your heart
It's a crime to fall in love again?"

I don't like a lot of country music but I love this song, so funny!

Well I ain't never
Been the barbie doll type
No I can't swig that sweet champagne
I'd rather drink beer all night
In a tavern or in a honky tonk
I want a four wheel drive tailgate
I've got posters on my wall of Skynrd, Kid and Straight
Some people look down on me
But I don't give a rip
I stand barefooted in my own front yard with a baby on my hip

Definitely! A lot of the songs I post are about wishing it would have worked out.

I don't call him daddy
but he takes care of things
When you pick me up on Friday
Are you gonna bring me anything?
Oh don't worry dad ya know
It don't matter what we do
I don't call him daddy
He could never be like you

So now that I have a bit more free time, I am making a concerted effort to listen to every song posted in this thread, while I'd only been listening here or there so far.

I'm up to page 12.

So alas, I haven't listened to enough of those break-up songs yet to know! But I'll get there.

We only started doing the themes recently, so probably the last 10 pages or so.

He says that he's going to marry me
We can raise a little family
Maybe we'll be all right
It's a sacrifice

Actually, we'd been through the first run of days of the week and are up to Irish/St Patrick's Day songs. But I'll make my way to the breakup songs eventually! Slow but steady.

This was the father/daughter dance at like every wedding I went to for a while when my cousins were getting married.

Wow! That's quite a challenge you've taken on.

Enjoy ... only 47 pages to go. :musicnote::musicnote::musicnote:

I love that song. It was used as the father/daughter song at weddings I went to in the 90s.

rubysmama rubysmama -- We should do a horse/pony theme. I love this song:

And my heart hit a problem in the early hours
So I stopped it dead for a beat or two
But I cut some cord, and I shouldn't have done it
And it won't forgive me after all these years
