Okay, changing the subject here with a little Note To Self: when you've stopped drinking soda, any  soda will cause major problems. We took my grandmother out to lunch today and I had a soda, because the choices were soda and ice tea, and I can't stand iced tea (not very Southern of me, I know, but we all have quirks). So--soda! I thought I'd be fine since I only had a few sips during the meal. And--no. No, I am not  fine. It hurts. So--word to those who have stopped drinking soda--don't.

OUCH!  I rarely drink soda, and when I do, I pay for it.  But once in a while I just HAVE to have a rootbeer float!

When I have a choice like that, I choose bottled water!!!  I do not drink soda, either.

I get it. I really do.

Bottled water wasn't an option. Tap  water (unfiltered and chilled with ice--that was also made with unfiltered tap water just after a month where the water treatment plant flooded three times), was an option. You can see why I thought soda would be safer. Boy, howdy, was I wrong!

Have you ever tried the cat grooming gloves or mitts?
This one has a lot longer teeth/nubs than the ones I've seen before
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01L5HP68M/?tag=&tag=thecatsite.

Other gloves have only rubber spots or smaller nubs. She might tolerate these, since it would be more like petting her.
No she won't tolerate it.  That's the problem.  About a quarter of her body she wants petted.  Another third she clearly hates being touched but will tolerate it short term.  The remainder is "Do Not Touch" territory.  And that's why she's matting, is that it's even off-limits to her in her own mind.

I was just at the off site adoption center for the local shelter volunteering and two of the cats there are so sick! They were coughing and sneezing and having really runny poop as well. I don't know why they haven't been sent back to the main shelter yet. They're too sick to be adopted in my opinion.

Are they going to be adopted out anyway, or is the shelter taking them to the vet?

poor babies! I hope they have seen a Vet and are getting some meds for this.

I agree, they need to be taken out of the general population. Can you make a suggestion? I know the place where I volunteer, has an update sheet for personal comments in addition to the daily log. We also keep everyone in the loop by e-mail.

Hopefully it is not the cat flu!

Last week, one of my cousins took one cat in for a yearly exam. She ended up with severe vomiting the next day. The day after, the other cat came down with the same thing. He withheld food for a bit, and now they are ok. Very strange.

Sophie finally made it into DD's room on Friday. DD worked Thursday overnight and got home around 9 AM. I got a text from her that miss Sophiesausrus was in her room. Now I know Sophie was not in her room when I left at 5:20 and the door was closed so I had no idea how that happened. DD went to change and didn't close the door all the way. DD went back into her room and heard her by the closet. Her visit was short lived. She was escorted out quite promptly. Sophie proceeded to stand outside the door and cry quite pitifully for a few minutes until she realized she was not getting back in and wandered off to find mischief to get into elsewhere.

Just tried to do a search for old news articles in my hometown and looks like those are all gone. I used to be able to look up old articles from the 1980s and 1990s. I will have to go to the library down there if they even still have them archived. It was weird because Facebook does a year ago memories thing and I scanned in an old photo of myself and a girl friend with my dog Zina and I couldn't remember what year it was..so I was hoping to reread that article but google doesn't have anything. Strange..I think it was 10 years ago I did the search and could find that stuff. Now all that stuff is gone. I hate it when I can't remember what year something is. I should have written the year on the article but it was cut out of the newspaper. Things like that drive me batty.

I have a dumb question=how come you can't drink soda ladies? Is it the fizzy gives you a belly ache? I quit Diet Coke Aug 2015 and I can't stand any soda now. I would drink bottled water or beer before I would drink soda. Even lemonade. But I hate soda. Even 7Up tastes nasty. I never liked soda as a kid. I didn't like the fizzy.

Your cat sounds like a trouble maker. We can't have closed doors in this house. Honeybee would tear a hole in the carpet scratching and she would bite off the corner of the door (I have bite marks on the back door from her trying to pry it open)

No Honeybee last night.  She had yucks on her so I tried to trim which she hates then tried to put a wet clothe to soften it up and she was completely TICKED off like growling and squirming. I finally managed to get her to sit for a few minutes to try to clean her up but I don't know why she would be hurting that bad to touch a wet clothe back there. Will keep an eye on it-I syringed her Miralax this morning. She was still having hard time going. I ran out and got her pumpkin but when I saw the mess on her butt last night I figured we didn't need it. I was wrong..somehow she sat in it. Don't tell me how!!! Why can't they just clip their own butts?!

The shelter has their own vet on staff so it is just a matter of getting them up to the main shelter. They probably haven't pulled them yet since they have an adopter lined up with an interview tomorrow. In general they don't adopt them out when they are sick though. So it may be a matter of telling the adopters these cats need to recover first.

Poor Honeybee!! hopefully she will be regular soon.   Wish they could take care of their own butts, without our intervention.

I never really had much of a desire to drink soda. I remember as a kid, I loved the flat soda. The bubbles give me terrible gas. I prefer it flat.

Then I started drinking diet soda.. same thing.. really bad cramps from the bubbles.

Then, I just automatically took to water.. and coffee or tea..

Currently, I never have soda in the house.. oh, I do stock up on ginger ale, just in case I get sick and cannot get to a store, but I end up dumping it out when it gets old. I prefer water..

Regular soda is too sweet for me; diet has that artificial taste, no matter what artificial sweetener is used.

Ah, soda.  I drink Diet Coke by the two-liter bottle but recently have been using green tea to wean myself from it.    So far, so good.

Chula is headed to the vet in a few hours.  Her periodic vomiting has become frequent so....off we go.  I'm afraid we're headed down the IBD road.

@Kat0121   Sophie is adorable with her darling face and funny "little" ways.

@foxxycat   Poor Honeybee.  Why won't Mom leave her butt alone?

@NewYork1301  (don't know why the tag didn't work)   I hope the sick kittens get treatment soon.  It would be a shame to miss a chance at a home because of illness.

@Tallyollyopia  I hope you are well rested and getting in some writing!

Soda was actually making me sick, hurting my overall health, so I cut it out of my diet. I used  to be able to drink it all the time (and did).

Hopefully they understand.

I found grape juice to be better for weaning. I didn't get much writing done, but I did get some.

I have a store meeting today (and work tonight!!), which is why I'm up now.

You might try giving her a teaspoon of chamomile tea (cooled, of course), waiting 15 minutes to half an hour, then trying it.  Chamomile is remarkably soothing in both humans and pets.

I've never been a big soda person, not even as a teenager.  I like them ok, but just not that much.  And yes, they can cause a LOT of gas!  The problem is, I never know when.  7 times out of 10 I am fine, and the other three I am not fit for polite society!  Even Hekitty gets disgusted and walks off!  About the only soda I really like and enjoy without issues is ginger ale.  I prefer the taste of Schwepp's, but it doesn't have real ginger in it, so I go to Canada Dry, which does.  Even better, but not available in my area are Reed's and Blenhein, which have more ginger.  Or I make my own.  The ginger settles the tummy and counteracts the bubbles.  I think.  And then there are those root beer floats...or...hot root beer with a twist of lemon...but I pay for BOTH of those!

I can close any door in my house.  That's because Hekitty has no problem opening them again.  That's why I keep my deadbolts on.  If she figures those out, I am in BIG trouble!

My parents had a cat that would open every door during the night only, they had levers, not door knobs. They finally locked the cat in the bathroom at night with his bed and litter box, the bathroom door had a key lock so they would lock the door so that it could not be opened without turning the key. Overnight guests would be admonished to be sure to lock the bathroom door after they were finished during the night. At least he did not try to escape while you were sitting on the toilet, he would just look at you and purr.

No raise--but we're losing the AM, getting a new AM, and I won fifty dollars from a store competition.

Ugh. I'm so tired. And still work tonight.

It's the sweeteners.  Soda is primarily either high fructose corn syrup or artificial sweeteners, and neither one is good for you.

And I, personally, don't believe in "dumb" questions.  Not asking about something that you don't know the answer to is dumb.  Asking is a sign of intelligence.
