I was always a dog person growing up.
Always had a dog at home. Never any cats.
Until I met my partner and his four cats that his family had since they were children.
They all died within 2 years of each other, and I like to think they are all together again at the rainbow bridge.
The first one to pass was the cat my partner chose as a child.
Her name was Serena, she was a bit special, but she was the sweetest little thing.
Always came when you called her, and made the weirdest noise, it sounded like a 'Wregh'
She passed when my partner was away from work and I was at my parents, so we didn't get to say goodbye.
That was the hardest thing.
but she was sick, and his brother took her to the vet so she could sleep peacefully and not in pain.
We know she would've appreciated the kindness.
Not long after that, we lost my partner's youngest brothers cat,
Bella.
She was a very nice cat.
Kept to herself, was an amazing mouser though.
First time I ever went to my partner's house, she celebrated by bringing in a massive rat into the kitchen lol
I like to think it was her welcome gift.
She got kidney failure in her last years and we noticed she lost a lot of weight and was peeing more often.
So we did the kind thing.
Then last year, we lost Bean/Eliza, the eldest of them all.
She was also Serena's mother.
She lived until she was 17-18 years old!
My partner's parents came to visit from the other side of the country, and Bean passed the week after. It's as if she held on long enough to say goodbye.
She was such a simple, but nice old cat. It was hard losing her.
She went in her sleep. Nice and peacefully.
Then the last one that left us, was the most handsome cat I've ever known.
John.
My partner's brother got him from another family member who's cat had kittens, and we still don't know for sure what he was.
He was at least a ragdoll and persian from what we were told.
He had the most perfect amount of smush face, and the most pathetic sounding meow.
Exactly like a baby's cry.
He passed around this time last year.
It's hard to lose a childhood pet, let alone 4 of them within 2 years.
At least we know they're in a better place, and we can use the empty space to show other cats love like these 4 had known.
