Oh
my
god!
This movie is worth all the good reviews it's been getting Heath Ledger's final full performance as Joker is nothing short of amazing. There's a good reason they are talking Oscar nomination, possibly even a win (which would be unprecedented for a comic book film).
This movie is so much more than good guy/bad guy. There is definitely a BAD guy (Joker), who is the embodiment of chaos. Not evil, chaos. The rest of the characters, from Bruce Wayne/Batman to Harvey Dent to Rachel Daws to Jim Gordon to Lucious Fox are conflicted between what is right, what is wrong, and what is necessary. To call this simply a Superhero Movie would be doing it a grave disservice. It is full of action, no doubt, but it has character development that has been sorely lacking in so many previous movies based on comic books.
They did this one right. They got the characters right. Joker wasn't a campy kinda funny guy in the real comics. He was psychopathic. And they got it right. There is no comparison to Jack Nicholson's Joker. It's a totally different character. Batman isn't all heroic either. He wants to be a hero but in this movie sees what he must do to combat the criminals of Gotham. It plagues him the entire film. The only one who truly is a "good guy" in the classic sense is Jim Gordon (Lieutenant to Commissioner Gordon in this film).
If you have any inkling of a desire to see this movie, go see it. If you liked Batman Begins more than the campy versions of Batman that have been made before, go see it. Even if you've never read the comic book, go see it. You won't be disappointed.
