The Best Food?

To start this off, Napolean's food trial is starting now. I just bought a cast of Addiction's "Unagi and Seaweed". He LOVES it! I'm crossing my fingers he doesn't react to it

So the food trial starts now.

I know this is a cat forum, but I would like to switch my dogs onto something better.

We went to this store in portland called "Pets on Broadway" they carry every food you guys have ever mentioned, Wellness, Innova, Felidae, Canidae, Newman's Own, Natural Balance. Even science diet

So what do you guys think is the best? I have a rottweiler cross 4 month old puppy, and a 9 year old lhasa apso cross. The lhasa is on a lamb and rice diet, although I think if she had a GOOD food she might be okay, she was on pedigree when we got her, and started having issues but has been fine on the lamb and rice. However, I have a suspicion, on a good food, like Sharky told me in the other topic that actually had what it says it has she'd probably be fine.

Also, do you guys feed only canned to your dogs as well? My cat has been getting half and half, and has maintained a good weight and my dogs have always gotten half and half, but since this food will be better, I don't want them to gain too much weight

Imho I would use the venison and green pea forrmula by natural balence ...it is truely basic and the fat and protein are good..
Did they have California natural?? that is my second choice
Third would be Nutro s Natural choice
those above are my dry choices...

wet I use all of the above and then a few...

Basically she gets the best I can afford and the best shell eat... I dont think your giving bad food just paying $$ for something that others make a "better" version of ... I looked at the lamb and rice and my biggest thing is too many grains and the citric acid... that formula is a good one.. but your 8 yr old should be looking into senior..imho

I do have to agree on the money thing, which is part of my switch on the cat. It costs me LESS for a better food [z/d has brewers rice in it]. If he can handle it, he likes it WAY better too. He sucked that half of a can up like no tomorrow!

What kind of RAW do you feed? I would be interested in maybe doing a partial RAW for my girls, it's just not something I have time for ALL the time.

As far as senior food, I agree, but I need a senior feed that is okay for dogs with allergies. So it would potentially have to be a "Lamb and Rice Senior". Like I said, I think most of her allergies should clear with a better food, when i bought the Addiction cat food today, I saw they have a dog version, and the Unagi & Seaweed is specifically for healthy bones and joints, and would be good for allergies. So I'm assuming this is something I could feed her, and then maybe supplement it with another senior feed?

What should I feed my puppy? Do you know any specific brand? That way when I go to the pet store again I can kind of know what I am looking for?

I love unagi and seaweed so I would love to feed it to my cats. Unfortunately, they don't sell it in Texas.

Good morning...

For raw I am learning( why they have commercial"100 balenced") ... Gigi loves organ meats.. I mix organs( liver and kidney is all I cant get them (2 of 3) to eat and mucsle meat they all like chn breat and hambuger with some bone meal( since I dont grind at home )... It does cost more( than grocery fare but less than canned) since I buy natural at the least and organic when I can..

To ansewer the senior question , most are chn based since the older dog sense of taste and smell are less than a younger aninmal ... If she needs lamb and rice look at lamb and right light.. If she can handle chn ... look at the natural choice senior it is chn rice and oatmeal and has jt support( gigi always go back to it and it works for her)


For Rotties I like large breed beef based food( I know red flag for many but in nearly 3 years doing demo s those that arent allergy prone love it and thrive) ....If worried about allergies look at lamb and rice large breed ( nutro and cience diet are the only makers of this I think) .. Do you keep the dogs seprate at meal time?? How big is the puppy in lbs now ?? Any sensitivitys???

I am trying to switch to Wysong. Relatively complex to mix, not necessarily easy to find but I think it is a good ideea.

I like there all meat canned.. the dry has things I dont like one I saw had by products corn and wheat

... I think they make raw supplements too those looked good

The puppy is about 25-30lbs. I need to re weigh her, last time she was at 22lbs. I do feed them seperatley kind of, they each eat from one end of the kitchen. They don't get into each others food [I watch them just in case, if the pup finishes first she'll try to weasel in] the only thing the pup will do is once my dog is done she'll lick her bowl.

Try the natural choice senior for the older one if you dont suspsion a chn allergy if you do , give me a day and I will find you a good one

... at four months that is a great wt and puppy will likely get 65lbs ... the max large breed beef would be a good food to start

For an allergic animal only Wellness has some formulas I would try... these are all good brands , thou I wouldnt use most of them for varing reasons...

Ahem, regarding Wysong, the ingredients seem to be all over the board. Some awesome ingredients with some really poor quality ones.

I'm looking into a few raw companies right now. So far the one I'm impressed with the most is Natures Variety Prairie freeze-dried and frozen foods. The other three I'm looking into are Homemade4Life, Bravo Raw Diet and Great Life Performance.

Check out raw advantage and The Honest Kitchen - one I am familiar with as the company is located in my state, the other is highly spoken of on a pet retailers list I am on.

I personally won't feed garlic to my cats, rules out the Nature's Variety as I recall from the last time I looked.
