I am new to cats and am totally unprepared for this. I am hoping you guys will have so advice. I couple of weeks ago we adopted a stray cat. She started coming around and when she didn't leave I started feeding her. I live in the country and it's not unusual to find strays (dogs and cats) that have been dropped in the woods. This cat struck me as one of those. She is very friendly.
I noticed she was pregnant and called the only vet I know. My horse's vet
He gave me the basics of what to do for her and told me not to worry. Got me an appt for next week for momma and babies with a regular vet. Yesterday she started showing signs of labor so I brought her into the house, got her set up with a place to have the kittens. This morning at about 8:30 am she lost her plug and had some bloody show. She has been having that off and on all day. She has been licking herself like crazy and goes though periods of time where she is panting and kind of looks like she pushes a little, then she gets out of the box and has a bite of food. I am surprised by her eating because everything I have tried to read in the last 36 hours said she wouldn't eat. She is also very small, which makes me nervous.
So I guess my question is how long after they lose their plug does it normal take for active, kitten producing labor start? Will it be obvious she is ready to give birth? I thought it was obvious a couple hours ago and then she was eating again. Any advice you all have about this would be most appreciated. I am a nervous wreck who has a whole new respect for what my hubby went through waiting for our kids to finally be born.
I do have to say that after 33 years of not being a cat person, this little girl has me converted.
