Before I go any further, he has been to the vet the last two days and I called the vet first thing this morning with another update.
So last Tuesday I trapped a sick, injured cat by my workplace who was trying to get into the dumpsters. We named him Van Gogh because he’s missing part of his ear.
We got him to the vet this past Tuesday. Quick summary what’s wrong, he’s got an upper respiratory infection, has some broken ribs, has severe dental disease, and has cauliflower ear. He got his vaccines, tested negative for worms/parasites and FIV/FELV, and got treated for ear mites.
So that night after his appointment I tried giving him his meds (clavamox chewables) with his wet food but he wouldn’t touch his food. That morning I tried again, wouldn’t eat. Wasted two tablets. Called the vet, they brought him in, he had a reaction to his vaccines and was running a fever. They gave him two injections and his fever went down and he ate a bit for them, so he came home. Tried feeding him that night, no interest. Wasted another tablet.Tried giving him the benedryl I was supposed to give, threw it right up.
This morning I heated up his wet food, no interest. Gave him his Clavamox with peanut butter, threw it up. This is when I called the vet AGAIN and waiting for a call back from them.
So, is there anything I can do in the meantime? He’s stressed, I keep shoving meds in his face and he’s clearly stressed and exhausted so I’m leaving him alone. It’s hard to find wet food right now with all these shortages so I buy what I can get. I’ve gone through 3 cans of Friskies that he won’t eat. I was previously feeding him Fancy Feast and he liked that a decent bit, so maybe he won’t touch the wet food because he doesn’t want the Frisies? Even though that’s what I was feeding him when we first caught him and he ate it right up.
I don’t really have the funds to be buying different meds or wet foods or stimulants, I was able to raise some money for his vet bills but any food I buy I use with my own money. I want him to get better, and I just wanted to see if anyone had any advice. Figured get as much advice as I can, right?
