Shelter cat is broken and super depressed

When Elliot first started coming around, he would eat a whole can of cat food, by himself, in about five minutes if we let him.

Now that he's indoors with a secure food source, he doesn't do that so much but I'm sure he still might if he had the chance.

He still makes "Om-nom-nom" noises when he eats!

I'm careful not to overload her food in one meal. We're supplementing with third meals and gravy.

Great! Third meal is really good. I feed my older girl (15) about four. It has to work for her and you.Your doing great

Cosette is definitely feeling better. She still stays under the couch, but she's much more receptive to attention, and she's more playful when she comes out. Thursday she goes for checkup. Getting plenty of food into her before the pouting on Thursday and Friday!

Hope all goes well on Thursday. So we will see about her pouting Thursday and Friday Sometimes they surprise us. She could just be happy to be back home from another vet experience. Nice that Cosette's safe spot has moved a little. Playing is a good sign also. She is feeling a little more relaxed. Moving along!

So glad Cosette is doing so much better, all around.
My gut is telling me that her teeth were giving her so much pain. Now, with this obstacle removed, she can come out of her shell and become a real 'cat'. I do not think it will take much longer. She is really beginning to trust her.

Do not worry about her 'pouting'. She is probably just scared-- I would not take it as pouting.
Sometimes, Geoffrey will not be himself, and hide for a full day after going to the Vet; especially if he has blood work done. Cats do not hold grudges. She will just be withdrawn for a bit.

Awww love Pretty girls. All great news. You are getting there one day at a time. She is alive, safe and taken care of. She just starting to figure it all out. Attention and love are new things to her.

BOY, did I get here late, but I'm just glad I got here! No wonder she just laid in one spot when you first brought her home! She had a mouthful of nasty teeth, and I imagine that her whole head throbbed with it. Now, because of your patience and determination, she has a chance to come out of her shell, and learn how much fun it can be to be a cat in a loving home! GOOD WORK!

An interesting thing happened today. Cosette has taken more initiative to clean herself. She spat out a hairball. It was under the couch. She lay there whimpering as if she'd done something naughty. We heard her under the couch. We had to get down and talk to her. After several minutes of pets and gentle talking she calmed down.

Casper acts that way when he throws up, too.

I don't know why. Maybe somebody from his before-time used to punish him for throwing up.

Of course, it's only natural to say something like, "Dammit, the cat puked!" It's a rather disagreeable job to clean it up. Beyond that, just clean it up and be done. Right?

No need to punish a cat for something like that!
