My cat Buddy has multiple issues stage 2 kidney disease, high blood pressure, and now ibd/lymphoma.
He was doing well all year until late March, which is when we found out his appetite and GI issues are from thickened small intestines. At the same time, he was also diagnosed with high blood pressure.
First we put him on blood pressure meds and his BP was back to normal, but then when we had to put him on steroids he experienced sudden blindness because the steroids caused a spike in blood pressure. (high blood pressure can cause blindness in cats)
We then had to double his blood pressure medication which stabilized him and the vet did an ocular tonometry evaluation and said his eyes were back to normal, but then when he had a recent flare up of diarrhea we had to double his steroid dose to 4mg prednisolone which then again caused high blood pressure and damage to his vision.
I feel upset, surely my vet should have known the risks of steroids affecting blood pressure. I just don't understand how my vet is not better monitoring and effectively treating both conditions.
