    Good morning.

Do you remember the first place you lived as an adult? What was it like? Did you live alone, with a partner or in a shared house?

I lived in a shared terrace house in a rather seedy part of Bristol for about a year. It was kind of fun, even though the whole place was old and damp. I shared with two other girls and two guys. We all got along well together, in spite of a few quarrels over who hadn't done the washing up and who had used who's cheese.

My first place all of my own was a flat in Bath. It was tiny, but much cleaner and brighter than the shared house. It was on the fourth floor above a pub called The King William. Watching what was going on outside the pub was far more interesting than anything on TV. I had a lot of fun living there.

What was your first place like?

I lived in an old house with 9 people and we had a blast. I was living with my boyfriend and my parents didn't approve but didn't say anything .Lots of big dinners, listening to music, parties, etc. Good times. :yess::dance::musicnote:

My first place was an apartment with a ex-friend when I was 18 years old. It lasted about 6 months as we did not get along very well. She had another friend move in with her and I moved back home. I moved into another apartment a few years later in Virginia and that only lasted a year. Twenty five years ago I brought my own house and I have been here ever since. Alone. In between that time I lived back home with my mother. My first room mate got married and they are still together. She owes me quite a bit of money that I will never see again. Come to think of it my other room mate owes me even more money. I am a sucker.

Well technically, the first place I lived as an adult was still at home with my parents. I left home a bit late in life (in my early 20's), but I was saving up a down payment for a house so I didn't have to waste my money on rent. Our house was big enough for all of us and I contributed to the household as well.
So the first place I lived when I finally moved out was in a mobile home (a nice place, don't think "trailer park boys"), that I was able to purchase on my own. The housing market was really expensive at the time, so that was the best I could do on a single income. My boyfriend (now husband) did move in with me, but the house and everything was still only in my name. I "made" him focus on getting his $50,000 school debt down instead of paying bills. When I bought my house I made sure it was something I could sustain on my own. We have since upgraded, but that little mobile was so much better than flushing my money down the rent drain. It allowed me to "save" for a down payment for my current home when we sold 4 years later.

During my senior year of college I rented a house with five friends. After graduating I met my now husband and we rented an apartment together, the rest is history. ;)

The first place I lived after leaving home was in a two bedroom apartment with three of my guy friends. It was fun and we all got along, but one of my friends had to sleep on the couch and there just wasn’t enough space for all of us. I moved out of there a year or two later and got a place with my girlfriend.

Back in college a group of us rented the ground floor of an old Victorian right on the Atlantic coast. Summer weekends were crazy because so many people visited to enjoy the beach. One of the guys looked to see if it was still standing last summer, and it is.

Won’t ever forget my first place. I was still 17 with a newborn, on welfare and not a lot of places would rent to me. But I finally found a rundown basement apartment in an old building. It was literally falling down around me - had to scoop the bathroom ceiling pieces out of the sink whenever you wanted to use it but it was home for three years. And despite being in the worst neighborhood in the city I had amazing wonderful neighbors including a supervising pediatric nurse right across the hall from me who worked at the same hospital clinic where I took my son.

As a college student, I used to live in several shared houses in the same town before I graduated.
After I graduated, I continued to live in a shared house and I started looking for small jobs. I wanted to be self-reliant; returning to my parents' home was out of the question. I adopted my first cat, Eefje. After some time I moved to my then boyfriend's place in the same town; he rented a room in another shared house. About a year later my then boyfriend, my cat Eefje and I moved to a (rented) house in another town.

I'm super boring. I lived with my parents until I saved up enough to buy a house, then I lived there alone (except for the pets, of course!). I was 23, almost 24, when I bought it.

My brother had more fun, lol. Once he and his friends rented a house with a fireplace. The landlord told them not to use it until it had been inspected. The inspector came. He said it was safe. That night they made a fire in the fireplace. . .and the roof caught fire! So they had to move. Then he and about 6 of his buddies rented another place, and they absolutely wrecked it. The living room floor actually fell in. Although that was probably a structural problem, not that they helped at all. Then he rented his own place, which was upstairs of a restaurant. The only way to get up there was a rickety, scary, outdoor fire escape type staircase. I only visited once ;).

I lived in a dorm in college with my then best friend. I officially lived in an apartment though when I was 26. There I was living with another friend (who happened to be the younger sister of my college roommate).

When I was in college I lived in a dorm the first two years, then me and four friends rented a house about ten minutes away from the university and we all lived there peacefully until graduating.

I lived in a 2 bedroom apartment with my friend I grew up with and my cat (I took her with me). We've been friends since 3rd grade and although we live in different towns and she's married, we are still friends today.
After that, she moved back home to take care of her sick mother and I rented a house with property so I could have my horses with me.

I had about 10 different roommates, in 10 different apartments. I don't remember which was first. My favorite was a mobile home that had an enclosed porch attached to it. That would have been perfect for cats, but I didn't have a cat then. I only lived alone once, in a studio apartment. I loved living alone, but it was expensive.

I lived in a 1 bedroom apartment above my dentist's office for 2 years in college. It wasn't a bad place and I had it all to myself. French doors, a small kitchen and living room, nice little yard...but the bathroom had an awesome old time ancient bathtub with a curved back and claw feet. To this day it's the best, most comfortable bathtub I've ever had.

There was a little corner store next door. I bought coffee there every morning.

Edit: I was 18 and I learned a lot about adulting.
