Hi guys so I'm just wondering what the benefit for having proper papers for a purebred cat is. Is it just so that it could enter in cat contests? Thanks.
The main reasons for having official registration papers for a cat are if you're planning to show or breed the cat. Another reason would be if you want to be sure you got a purebred cat. If you have a cat you absolutely love no matter what, and you're not planning to show or breed, the registration is a matter of personal preference.
Registration is the only way to know you're getting a purebred, if that's important to you. If you pay purebred prices for the kitty, it's probably important to know you got what you paid for . And, yes, if you want to show or breed you'd need their registration papers.
Unfortunately, there are people out there who try to sell lookalike cats as purebreds, charging a purebred price. If you want to be sure you're getting the breed you want, your cat should come with pedigree papers. Also, with registration, you're not supporting backyard breeders.
