It sure sounds like she’s in labor. Cats purr through labor to soothe themselves from the pain.

Two kittens so far. Biscuit growled at the first one when it cried but has settled now, but has licked both and the placentas (didn't totally see first as so fast , but saw blob of red that wasn't the kitten and then it was gone.
Maybe issue with back legs of first one are out behind it, but it seems well otherwise. But I am concerned.

If the kitten has swimmer’s legs, don’t stress, it’s easily corrected. Let’s wait until mom is finished and we’ll take up that issue in a couple of days. :)

No1 (calico with swimmers legs) has yet latched on, but is trying to shove no2 ginger off a nipple. Should I try and help her find one, or just give them some time.

My instincts would be to watch and if the calico seems to be really frauterated/crying then to intervene and help her find one.

Thanks SAKitty SAKitty - she latched on a few minutes later by herself!

Third kitten has just arrived - another ginger.

A fourth has just arrived. She has yet to cut cord and placenta still inside.

No 4 just basically dragged the placenta out of her and then Biscuit ate it.

Mom is probably getting tired. Sometimes it can be a few minutes before a placenta delivers. Do you think she has more still?

All doing well so far, can see three suckling and other is tucked under Biscuit's front leg, but think it is suckling. Biscuit is tired and having a rest. No sign of any more. Vet said she felt three and it is her first (and only litter), so I don't think there will be more.

Let’s hope this is it. Offer mom a dish of KMR if you have it. Put it in the nest.

I have lactose free cat milk - is that OK to offer her? I have a couple of emergency sachets of Kmr for the kittens, which I'd like to keep for now. She is dosing so I'll wait for a bit. Naturally she choose the smallest box, so not a lot of room! Have dry biscuits (is it called kibble in the US?) and water just outside.

What is a sensible temperature to keep the room?
