It was a hot summer day. My sister-in-law washed the dog's bowl and filled it with fresh water, then got a glass of water for herself, being sure to add some ice. As she sipped it, she saw the dog looking at her accusingly. She tried to think what she'd forgotten, but there was nothing. The dog had had breakfast, and a walk, and his water bowl was full of fresh, clean water. What could it be? As she tried to think, she took a sip from her own glass of water, and the ice cubes clinked. The dog looked at her even more accusingly. No! He wasn't looking at her -- his eyes were tracking her glass, and his ears pricked up every time the ice clinked! She got up and got a few fresh cubes from the ice maker which she added to the dog's water bowl. As her dog drank enthusiastically, my sister-in-law reflected that life had just become very interesting. Her dog was training her, and apparently she was a slow learner.
