my cat leo didnt go blind, but suddenly showed up limping, he had xray done and there was no broken bones etc, so for two more months he was on meloxicam pain medication, my cats personality would be sudden agression , compared to the 12 years i had him were he was the most gentlest cat on the planet, never bit or attacked me once only until this limping started. The vet put him on antibiotics incase there was an abcess that is not seen from the xray scan, and was also put on gabapentine liquid. Before he was put on gabapentine leo's limp was getting better but was still a little wobbly. But i asked the vet to give the gabapentine because leo would meow like he was in a cat fight out of the blue. He also became protective of his blanket and wouldnt let me get near him at times and leo would chase me around the back yard as if i was another cat, like sudden territorial behaivour but it was aimed towards me, he was jekyl and hide , one minute a sweet cat and then will meow loudly and tried to attack me very viciously. Leo eventually after four months couldnt get up anymore with his back legs that he was dragging himself around, and eventually became incontinent. The vet said it could be a pinched nerve in the spine where his back would twich that was causing the pain at random times or a cyst in the spine and that if i did an MRI or surgery for the spine he would either recover which was a 5 % chance, or have some improvement or be completly disabled. In the end i chose to put leo down, cause nothing was helping him with the pain he was getting, gabapentine wasnt working on him either and his quality of life wasnt good as no one was able to look after him when i was at work. The vets didnt bother to do blood work on him when i asked. They were more concered about pulling his teeth out rather than spending the time for blood tests or mri.
To me i think leo had some injury in his spine or something neurological was happening to him at the same time with the limping this was all in a matter of four months deterioration , and i think they didnt bother with leo much because they thought he was a feral stray tabby even though he was owned previously and was microchipped and was looked after by me for 12 years. I did see three different vets and they didnt do much for him Leo still was his happy bright self on the day i chose to put him down which is a very bitter memory for me that day will always stick with me.
