I took in a stray kitten found outside in the rain, extremely underweight, had multiple types of worms, eyes matted shut and covered in fleas. I was able to help him with everything except for the diarrhea. Took him to the vet and they said he had a slight positive for giardia. He was put on meds for that, antibiotic for possibility of a URI and drops for ear mites.
The diarrhea is as bad if not worse now than it was a week ago. Went back to the vet today and Giardia test negative and other fecal test was negative. She switched his antibiotics for URI because she said possibly that was causing the diarrhea. Plus he still has a runny nose. Gave me meds to give him every four hours for the diarrhea, plus a medicated powder because his bottom is extremely raw from the diarrhea. Also started him on Albon as a precaution.
He is finally eating on his own! He only likes chicken based foods so hopefully that’s okay. He’s currently in a cone of shame so he’ll stop licking and cleaning himself in hopes it will help heal his bottom.
He’s hardly gaining any weight because it comes out as soon as it goes in him. I was having to syringe feed him until a couple days ago. He’s gained 7 oz in 14 days. I have a houseful of rescued cats so he’s been in my bathroom the entire time.
Please help! Any suggestions or questions are welcomed! I can’t take the watery poop everywhere anymore, it’s terrible! I’m spending a fortune in vet bills, medication, cleaning supplies and dog pads for him. He’s the sweetest thing but I need the poop to stop! I didn’t plan on taking on anymore rescues but who can say no to such a sweet innocent thing
