Thank you all, I'm so happy that I'm finally finding some answers to my baby's condition, the problem is mostly allergies... to food and cat litter. I still have to find out what causes his throat , earsand eyes to get all red and itchy when he is on a lower dose of prednisolone. But hopefully I will be able to help him. here is a new pic of him:-)

I just love that sweet face!!

Hi Tammy, could it be pollen at all? Is the throat, & other itchiness seem to be seasonal or not? I don't remember?  Is he still going out for walks? The pollen is already getting bad here.

A few weeks ago I had the windows open because it was so nice, but a couple of days later, Angel woke me up at 5:00 in the morning coughing. It sounded horrible! He had a few coughing spells in a half an hour before settling down. I even checked to make sure nothing was in his throat, but didn't see anything. When he settled down, I couldn't get him to drink, (he never does, I put so much water in his wet food still since the cystitis in 2012), so I put water in a syringe, & gave him a little in his cheek for him to swallow to at least rinse his throat, in case he needed it. The only thing I could think of was it must have been some pollen from when the windows were open. There was no other reason. ..?   It was scary though. I took a pillow off the couch & laid down on the floor next to him in his bed, just to make sure he was o.k. & to hear his breathing, until it was time for me to get up. He was fine after that, but I have not opened the windows again!

omg Kelly, now that you me tioned ehat happened to your baby Angel, I took Lucas in my arms outside so he could get some air, but I stopped taking him for walks because of the toe situation. At could have been it because he was doing so well! It was windy, oh my it could have been the pollen, or something else in the air. Thank you for telling me about this. I will be more careful and won't be taking him outside anymore. Lucas wasn't born to be outside. Thank you Kelly and I hope your Angel is doing good now:-) hugs!

You are so welcome Tammy. Sometimes it's the simplest things we forget about, because it's become such a regular thing in our lives, we can tend to "forget" about it, but sometimes, it's the most obvious thing. It just makes sense. I remember when Angel used to go outside too, (This Aug. will be 4 yrs he has been indoor only!),  & at one point, he was chewing raw spots on himself. I know it was the pollen. It was always "seasonal."

Will Lucas let you give him a bath? That may feel good to him with the right shampoo for him. Otherwise, I would just give him a good wipe down w/ some wipes.

(as for shampoo,  when Angel used to go outside, I would give him a bath about once a month, not only because of pollen, but he liked to roll in the dirt like a silly!

I got the Oatmeal & Aloe shampoo & conditioner from 1-800 Pet Meds.com I had it down to 1-2 shampoos, depending how dirty he was, & then conditioner. All done in about 15 minutes!)  I also made sure he was rinsed really well.  I actually gave him a bath a couple of weeks ago this monday. He hadn't had one in about a year & 1/2. He wines the whole time, but is good & lets me do it.

I know the skin issues were due to the food because he was indoors only and he never went outside before amd he couldn't stop scratching and also it was all year, not seasonal and now he is all better , but I think the eye, throath and ear problem could be the pollen and that is a big problem living in a tropical island... He is a litte better now. I'm never taking him outside again, not ever. I'm even thinking about buying an air purifier... We don't have air conditioner, just fans and that doesn't help.

Maybe if I never take him out again I will be able to lower his dose if prednisolone:-)

Lucas hates it when I give him a bath, I use an hypoallergenic shampoo, GNC cat hypoallergenic shampoo and I also have the grooming wipes. I will give him a warm bath this weekend just in case.

Thank you Kelly!!! Hugs to Angel!

An air purifier sounds like a great idea, & may help. I think little by little you are figuring out ways to help him.  Lucas is blessed to have such a good mommy.

Hello everyone! Sorry forntaking so long to update, Lucas is doing great, BUt he can't be off prednisolone (10 mg daily). I have learned to accept that. Each time I guve him less than that he will get sick. And is not that he gets a rash or looses hair, he will get eyes and throat infections that are awful. He hasn't lost hair since he is on gluten free, grain free food and hypoallergenic litter. I tried giving him Chicken Natural Balance Limited ingredients and he did great on it for months, then tried the salmon and also did great. I've been doing this to test what hebis allergic to. I will trynto post some pics of my boy:-)

Hello everyone:
I'm so sorry I haven't post lately, Lucas was doing so well but now he is sick, his eyes, he is loosing his sight and my heart is broken to pieces, I'm devastated and destroyed. When I noticed that his eyes were getting cloudy I ran with him to the vet and he told me it was inflamation of the cornea, keratitis. So he has been on a treatment for two weeks, an ointment that has triple antibiotic and hydrocortisone. I took him back today and it isn't getting better. So they referred me to a specialist that is three hours away. I'm just somsad and worried, if anyone knows about this condition please let me know.

oh, how sad! Such a pretty kitty. If he does go blind, bear in mind that blind cats do well as long as kept indoors.

Oh Tammy, I am so sorry to hear this. Poor Lucas, He was finally doing well for so long now.  I am going to answer your pm right now!

I really hope he doesn't go blind, but keep in mind, as the above poster said, blind cats can do well. Especially since Lucas already has "the lay of the land" around the house.

I am sad to tell you that Angel is no longer with me. I will fill you in, in the pm.

Love,

Kelly

Give that Lucas lots of kisses from his Auntie Kelly!!   I missed you guys!
