OK so,
Recently my little boy has had a few problems with his left eye. The sclera gets red and irritated, and it's weepy. Nothing yellow or green. Just clear. He's a bit winky and uncomfortable looking. I've taken him to the vet with it twicem*two different vets just to be sure*

Both said it didn't look like a uri or herpes. They gave me an ocular ointment to perhaps ease the symptoms. I'm thinking he might have an allergy to something? We've recently had a sudden very drastic weather change?? I don't know if that matters but it went from below freezing to spring like Temps. He isn't wheezy and is eating just as much as normal.
Anyone know what this might be??

There are so many things it could be. Are you able to take him to an eye specialist who will have the equipment to give him a thorough eye examination.

Well, I'm not totally sure. We have a lot of veterinary clinics here but not a whole lots of specialists. It's one of those 'goes away for a few weeks. Comes back for a few days.' I'm thinking he might be allergic to the fabric soften I use to spray on wrinkles. It seems when I use it more often he gets irritated. They said it could definitely be allergies to perfumes or cleaners. This round has only been going on for a day I'd say. And it's only ever one eye. If it doesn't start to clear up *I'm ceasing the use of the fabric softener/not using perfumes in the house* I'm taking him to the doctor!

Its a good idea to stop using the fabric softener, in case it is the cause. I hope the eye settles down quickly. Please let us know how he gets on.

Of course! I'm switching to an allergen free detergent/softener. I love my sweet cream puff and will gladly spend the extra to get his eyes all better

Update!
Turns out, it was totally the fabric softener. I stopped using it and the irritated eye hasn't come back!

bumping this thread up. I think I may have accidentally irritated my Baxter’s eyes too. I wash his round sleeping bed cover every week. I wash it with Tide and Snuggle but then also dry it in the dryer with Bounce sheets. He curls up in there so I’m wondering if hs somewhat reacting to the fragrance or chemical. :((

Both of his eyes seem to be doing better now after noticing it yesterday. Hopefully it goes away fully! I’m glad I researched this on TheCatSite.
