Hello!

I have three cats of my own! Zelda is a tabby and is my oldest -she will be 6 soon. Then I have Binx - a black male - who will be 4 soon. And finally Vader-- my Snowshoe who just turned 1!
I love them all!

I did have an incident with Vader about two months ago. He decided to randomly attack Zelda and I stupidly intervened. Vader bit my PIP joint in my finger - which is the middle knuckle. He bit all the way through it. I went to the ER a few days later as it was the weekend and by that time it was red, swollen, and I could not bend my index finger. They told me it was fine- and sent me home. A week later I was not feeling any better so I got into my PCP and she referred me to a hand specialist. Turns out it was septic arthritis. Which destroys the joint within hours. I had it for days. I was put into emergency surgery and was in the hospital for 4 days.

I am in PT now to try and gain the motion. I still have a very stiff joint and cannot bend. I was also prescribed Gabapentin for the nerve pain.

Vader is still my boy!! :)

That's almost the same mix as mine. LOL

I have a black male (Nightfury) and a Snowshoe male (Link, Zelda reference). My little girl (Rocket) though is a snowshoe too.

Yours are very cute. I love Zeldas look in her photo.

Our Zelda is a well, Zelda reference as well! Binx from Hocus Pocus and then Vader being Star Wars :)

How to Train Your Dragon, Zelda and Guardians of the Galaxy over here. Nerds unite! LOL

This is Nightfury and Rocket.

They are gorgeous! How old is your other snow? Vader is 1 - but he isn't that dark yet. Is that normal? I mean he is darker then he was. But not that dark.

Rocket is 2 years old and Link is 3 years old. We are fairly certain Link has some Burmese because he has darkened considerably. The pointed gene is temperature sensitive and mine do go outside. We are in Southern California so they usually hit a low in the 40s/50s at night and highs in the 100s during the summers. Very few freezing days in my area.

Link over the last three years....

Rocket hasn't darkened as much over two years...

Rocket also has more white and is very little. While Link is long and leggy. The natural lighting versus indoor lighting also affects how their coats and eyes look. The last photo of Rocket above was only two weeks after the photo below. The darker look is from indoor lighting.

I love reasons to upload photos.... but it does have a point. It is completely normal for pointed cats and Snowshoes to darken over their entire lives. Indoor only will darken slower due to controlled temperatures. But even changes in their ability to regulate body temperature (fairly common in all mammals as they age) will darken them a little more each year.

That could be why Vader isn't as dark - he doesn't go outside (too scared haha) and is more of in a controlled environment. I hope he darkens up a little bit more though! i know he is still fairly young!

Welcome to TCS. I'm so surprised that - with three cats - it would be the evil beautiful Snowshoe who bit you. I see that your username also reflects the Snowshoe as well - like Kieka's (and my own) avatar. Cattime.com's opening lines in the description of Snowshoes reads, "...the Snowshoe is a unique individual who is always interesting to live with. A Snowshoe may be the bossy master or mistress of the home...." Bestcat is a little more straightforward: "...these felines are not only possessed of great beauty but great intelligence as well. A closet or cabinet has not only to be closed but also locked, otherwise your Snowshoe will likely figure a way to open it."

This, of course, is an understatement; they're more like Harry Houdini than they are like cats. One member on another site actually has padlocks on her kitchen cabinets, because her initial "fix" of using hooks and eyes simply resulted in the cat unlatching the cabinet doors and pushing the china and glassware onto the granite counter. Who knew that you could chip a stone countertop?

Listen to the message on Jackson Galaxy's "Cat From Hell Hellpline" some time. It begins, "If you need help with a domestic cat other than a Snowshoe, please press 1 now; if you need help with a Snowshoe Cat, please hang up and don't ever call back!"

Yes - they are delightful, although my veterinarian calls them, "the Leroy Brown of cats." Don't ever tug on their ear tips - they're not really ears at all:

Just horn covers, see?

Mine has very few bad habits, fortunately. Oh, she leaps up at light switches, turning them off and on, of course, and she'll poke at the remote controls for the television, CD player and air conditioner, so it seems like you're living with a poltergeist... you have to eat ice cream outside, because even if you lock yourself in the kitchen, she'll just turn the doorknob, leap onto the table, and shove her head into the bowl. She drops those electronic RealSqueak mice into the water bowl; she moves things around in the house to suit her wishes - a sponge atop the refrigerator, milk jug rings on top of the book cases (I once discovered more than thirty of them in one spot), and socks behind kitchen cabinet doors (yes - the hampers now have locks on them). Got any idea how hard it is to make eggs on a charcoal grill? If yours likes eggs, you'd better learn how. Mine also swats at anything through the windows - snowflakes, birds, leaves (she screams at the leaves in Autumn, and will attack them incessantly through the glass - and Lord forbid if a leaf comes in on your shoe!). No doubt you're already familiar with this news story which was later made into a feature-length piece:

I have nine other cats. They laze around in the sunlight, gather together for canned food and treats, and generally are the most laid-back animals in Creation, sleeping most of the day and night away. The Snowshoe? I don't think she ever sleeps.

Cheeseburgers? The other cats show no interest at all, but you must make three tiny cheeseburgers, about three quarters of an inch around, and then cut them into quarters, and put them on a plate for her, or you'll never get a bite of your own. Seriously.

She cornered my veterinarian's English Mastiff one night while we were having pizza in another room. When the dog started making frightened sounds, we went in to find him cornered, and her about to eat the food we'd put out for him. She saw us and bolted through the door into the next room, and when we'd ascertained that the dog was all right, we saw her hunched over the pizza box, just about to drag a slice off somewhere.

Oh, yes - Snowshoes are wonderful companions. Not quite as nice as Vampire Bats or skunks with explosive diarrhea, of course, but wonderful all the same.

Binx, Zelda and Vader are all just gorgeous, by the way. Since this has become Show And Tell, here's my little Family:

Bob, WhiteTip, Peanut, Lance and Black Friday on top; Oz, Puff, Scottiecat, Moo Shu Snowshoe and Clawed-Ya on the bottom. Nine of them say, "welcome to TCS" - the tenth one "couldn't be reached for comment."

Omigosh - you made me giggle. YES! I have learned so much with Vader and his habits. He has been the cat that has pushed my buttons way too often lol!

Last night she shoved my glass of water off the table for no other reason then to annoy me. He KNOWS when I am getting annoyed. He was digging around in the litter box for like 10 minutes. I yelled his name and to stop. He stopped for a second and continued.

All of your cats are absolutely gorgeous!

"Oh, water? In a glass? We can't have that! The water must be on the floor where we can walk through it and then track it through the house."

Mine has to have the faucet dripping in a fine stream, permanently. She plays with it, drinks it, and splashes it everywhere. If she's asleep in another room, or on another floor, and you tiptoe to the sink and turn off the water, she's there, in the sink, immediately as though via teleportation, SCREAMING that the water has been turned off, and if she doesn't get some water IMMEDIATELY, she'll die of dehydration. When you relent, she'll calmly jump off the counter and ignore it.

Having a Snowshoe is kind of like having an high strung, precocious, temperamental three year old who was sired by the devil and raised by wolves - and who has a machine pistol pointed at you.

He was sleeping on the arm of the love seat and the table and my glass was next to it. He just woke up and I guess it was bothering him. He goes into my bathroom - I used to have my body mist sprays lined up there. Nope- can't have that. I watched him once just sit and paw each off into the floor. My make up too.
