New Kitten Training - Help!

New sweet rambunctious 12 week old in the house. Looking for tips on how to prevent him from:
(1) jumping up on some counters and
(2) scratching furniture.
So far have done the gentle removal from the counter or from the scratching location with gentle redirection to scratching post etc etc with no scolding etc etc. Is this going to work?????

I found that it helped to set a distinct scolding noise/word - I use "uh uh uh" in a low tone. So whenever my kitten did something that I didn't want her to, I would make the scolding sound and immediately redirect her attention elsewhere with a toy. I don't know if this taught her not to do it entirely, but she certainly does those things less now.
