So after hearing "When are we getting a friend for Holly" for 6 months, Friday we went to animal control and brought home a kitten. Orange tabby- name is Samwise Gamgee ( my kids like LOTR).
Getting him "fixed" though may wind up being a hassle. I went through animal control. Wanted to do so for a couple of reasons. I wanted to check out their new facility (very pretty). I like taking in an animal from a regular shelter that might not have a chance at life. Their adoption fees are reasonable ($75 total. $35 for the cat, and $40 to the humane society to get his operation done).
And the humane society may be a problem. I called them this morning to try to set up an appt, since that is what they told me Friday. The person that answered the phone said that once they got our information, they would call us back and make something. Well- I don't want to wait until Nov (and that's when the clerk at animal control originally put it down). They said he's 6 weeks. I don't think so. He's got "boy parts" already. He's not spraying stuff- but I don't want to wait to find that out. We had one that sprayed and it was a PAIN. And I also gave them $40 for a neuter/microchip combo.
He's got to go to our vet this afternoon. If our vet gives the go-ahead, I'm going to call them tomorrow and say "he's x weeks old and x pounds so I want him done as soon as you can" But it's kind of hard to do so when animal control didn't really know how old he was- or how much he weighs.
Holly is- kind of stressed. They will tolerate each other in the same room. Holly does a lot of growling at him, and she did try to swat at him this morning. When nobody's home, Holly gets the run of the house and Sam is locked in someone's room with a litter box. Holly lived with other cats all of her life so I don't think there's going to be a problem. And Sam's just a love-bug with a good personality- I think he'll be fine too.
If I can figure out how to post pictures from my phone to this site- I'll post a couple.
