Darlene:
That was pretty much it. It was actually my mother's cousin's wife. She always was a bit of a tyrant, with a loud-mouthed Virginia drawl.
We went over there for some dinner. There I am in the 60s Sunday garb: dress, hat, white gloves, Mary Janes, the whole gammut.
No sooner do I get in the house and she shrieks: "Why don't ya'll get out there and husk some corn?"
Out I went. No use turning to my mother for appeal. She was always so intimidated by the woman, I'm surprised she wasn't out there husking along side of me.
