I don't know how this man has lived this long
Today he went to a jobsite at Fort Desoto. He pulled up, put his work van in park and sat there for a few minutes doing paperwork before he got out. When he did get out guess what he stepped on....AN EASTERN DIAMONBACK RATTLESNAKE!
It was over 6 feet long! Stepped right on his neck (about 3 inches from his head). He looked down and it was striking his steel toe work boots. He said it felt like someone hitting his foot with a hammer. He couldn't take his foot off of it because if he did, it would have struck him numerous times. They're very fast!
Well he reached down and grabbed it! Right around it's neck, bare handed! He ended up having to kill it or it would have killed him. And he did it with his hands
It had 3 inch long fangs! The mate was about 30 feet away and went into the bushes...thank god!
Knowing no one would believe him he brought it home!
When I got to thier house tonight to go trick-or-treating my mom says "Your dad has something to show you" So I went in and asked him what he had.
He walked us out into the backyard, grabbed a bag and opened it.
I have NEVER seen a rattlesnake THIS big in my life! It had 12 rattles on it!
Tomorrow he is taking it to Fort Desoto which is a state park to show them how big they've gotten there. People go camping, fishing and everything there. He's also going to be on the news because of the way it all happened and how he killed it...
My dad has always been crazy like this (same man who likes to bring home pigmy rattlesnakes to my mom in Gatorade bottles
) but in this situation he had no choice. It was kill or be killed. Thank god he had "cat-like" reflexes!
