Almost all cat color genes are autosomal (they are not on the X chromosome) so they are equally inherited from both parents.
The red gene is the only one that is sex-linked (on the X chromosome). In the case of a male kitten, he gets this color gene only from his mom, and he will be either red or non-red (black, brown tabby etc) depending on what he got from his mom. A female kitten inherits one X from mom and one X from dad.
