Felines have two actual "horns" that kittens grow inside her. My outside cat had three kittens , and then two days later had four more. All of these things are controlled by the actual mating and the health of the momma cat. If you are certain that the placenta was delivered, keep an eye on her for as many as four days. Also please remember this , cats cannot count. If you have a cat that has had one or two kittens, and then 20 hours later goes into labor again in one of her other chosen spots, she may indeed forget about the first two. Be sure to hurry up and combine them. This can happen when a mother is moving the litter as well. They notice if they are all missing, but do not tend to miss one or two. If your cat only has one single kitten, she may have had an unpleasant mating, or an interrupted one , or was critically late in her stage of heat. If this is indeed the case, make sure her milk comes, and be very diligent about keeping the baby warm. It has no litter mates to cuddle up with and will chill easily. Good luck and best wishes .
