MANY issues that we just gave up on and are in foreclosure. I would prefer a duplex or something set up where cats can have more room that is ALL tile and a reg part of house thats more human orriented only cause nothing I put stays lol
But seriously I want a ranch house with some land and privacy to have a enclosure for the cats and a safe area where you can have windows open and not worry about leaving the room for 10 minutes. Everything on one level is my dream right now. Central air too
We live in a duplex owned by my aunt & uncle. They live in one half, we have the other half. Both units are pretty much identical. I LOVE where I live, because it is far enough out of town to be peaceful and private, but not too far to be a pain to get to work. My uncle spoils us and gives us pretty much anything we want here and he writes it off. He just built us a large, brand new deck out back.
I live in a single family house. DH and I have been slowly personalizing it since we got it 3 years ago this month. We love it here! We have painted, added chair rail and other trim, fenced the back yard, done some planting, etc. Someday we'd like to add on another livingroom with a fireplace and make the current one more of a family room.
Things I wish we could have changed- moving to a bigger home. The kitchen is small, the bedrooms are tiny.
Up side is that when we moved here, we had no idea that we'd be zoned for the high school that everyone wants their kids to be sent to. Not to mention we back up to wetlands, so nobody can build anything behind us, and we've got a gigantic back yard.
Can't move now. Dd has 3 years left in high school and we'd have to pay 150K (at least) more to get a bigger house in the same school district. And why would we go bigger now anyways? ODD is about to graduate high school (in 4 days)- going to school 3 hours away so we will be down 1 person in this house come August.
If dh and I ever do move- I'd like to do all one floor. I don't know- I think if something ever happened to one of his parents, we might consider it. They live on a 100 acre farm, and the only way either of them are going to leave is if they die. I worry about them (in their mid- 70's) a half- mile away from the nearest neighbor, and you need a car to get anywhere.
I have my own house, an old 2-bedroom 2-story I bought 8 1/2 years ago. Big yard, right next to the city park. I want to build a cat enclosure, a shed, a 6-foot privacy fence, and change the carpets out for hard floors. These are all things I could do, I'm just too much of a procrastinator :lol3:. I don't really like living near the park. . .should have thought of that better. Too many noisy kids and nosy adults.
I REALLY want a small acreage outside city limits. But they're expensive. And I'm a sissy and don't want to be alone at night out there. Even with the dogs. . .I'd need a roommate. Who really likes cats :tongue2:.
I live in a house that is split into two (side by side). We rent one half and the owners cousin and her husband live in the other half. There are a few things I would change....I would like a backyard for the dogs, the bedrooms are really small and there is only one bathroom. We are planning on buying a house in a couple of years and will make sure our house has those things (and central air).
We live in a single-family house, on .13 of an acre, in a very large, 500-home development. It's on the top of a hill/mountain, and that road cuts though a woods for about 1.5 miles--very pretty, but a PAIN driving in the snow downhill!
We really do have enough room for only 2 adults and 9 cats. We're not having kids, so we have 2 extra bedrooms: 1 is DH's den; the other, my sewing room/guest room/cat boudoir/rescue quarantine room (when we have new rescues). Half the herd uses the double bed to lounge on (I put plastic over the bedspread to keep fur off it). They have 3 nice-sized windows to spy on the neighbors, and the room is very sunny and warm in the winter. They even have an armchair! The herd also has use of the garage for their bathroom and playroom (we don't put our cars in there, and only use it for storage). Mommy and Daddy took pity on them, so, in the winter, we put an electric Franklin stove in there to keep them warm. We also have a laundry sink to wash litter boxes in, and do the entire litter operation there.
The spoiled little brats also use the study, which, apart from the Kitty Outhouse (garage) is the largest room in our house. Someone call Animal Welfare, and report me NOW...
The living room has a nice bay window. When I saw the house the first time, it was a selling point--I could just imagine Jasmine & Marge sitting there. We now have bird feeders outside for the cats' pleasure!
All in all, we love our house, but there are several things we wanted, but had to trade off to get other things we needed:
1. Wish we had more space between us and the neighbors, and for vegetable gardening.
2. Hate that hill in bad weather!
3. We really wanted a full basement or a 4th bedroom. The basement was to be a shared crafts room and guest room, and for storage. DH had a huge, heavy gun safe then; he wanted a walk-out basement--it would've made getting it inside a LOT easier.
4. We have 3 bathrooms. Mine's a nice size, but the other 2 are WEIRD. The so-called "master" bathroom is mostly only 44" wide. Anyone on the toilet will have their knees close to the opposite wall. you can't even buy a tub for it! The shortest tub is 48"! The 1/2 bath is 3ft wide, and long. It's a good incentive to keep us thin--a very obese person literally would get stuck trying to turn around!
Single-family house. We live in a small bi-level on about 1-1/2 acres. On a hill, which can be a bugger in the winter time. Snow and ice are not my friends.
When it's really bad, we walk up and down the driveway. Although, since I bought the Hannah (theTucson), which is all-wheel drive, we didn't get any snow, so I haven't had a chance to test her out.....not that I'm complaining about that.
We have enough land to keep us occupied. Between the vegetable garden and the flowerbeds, we have enough work to keep us happy, I guess. We're planning some new flowerbeds and we continue to plant trees (we put in the flowering chestnut and the flowering plum last month and will add more plum trees next spring, we hope). We built the house on bare land and we planted a lot of trees in the yards....we both love trees.
Our house is very small, only two bedrooms. I'd love to have another bedroom sometimes that we could use as a guest room. Our master bedroom is actually two rooms that we merged into one large room. The computer room is actually the second bedroom.
I really don't like my kitchen. With only one window at the sink that faces north, it can be very dark and dreary during the winter months. (Someday, I'd love to have a small bay window area at the sink.) I never seem to have enough storage space, although moving the old entertainment center from the living room to the basement last month and storing hardly-used kitchens items in the center has really helped with my storage dilemma. Don't like my cabinets; they are too dark for me. The countertop is a cheap laminate, just an off-white. Don't like that either. I would love to have a spacious kitchen island that I could use to knead yeast doughs and to roll out cookie and pastry doughs. The kitchen is U-shaped, so there are cabinets on all three sides. When we built the house about 30 years ago, the kitchen came with an L-shaped cabinet plan; I knew even then, that it wasn't enough cabinets, so we added more. I spend more time in my kitchen than any other room in the house.
We're slowly getting the basement renovated; we're working on a bit of a family room with a fireplace and library in the basement. And a home gym...I have all the equipment (treadmill, elliptical, Bowflex, weights and bench, etc.); it's just getting it all in one spot. We've already built a ton of storage shelves downstairs, too. We're putting in a small bathroom as well. It's hard and slow-going because we try to do as much as we can by ourselves.
We'd love to have a two-car garage; as we get older, we are starting to mind shoveling all that snow and ice to get to work. An idea that we've been kicking around is to add the garage (actually about 2-1/2 cars, so that we have also have storage for lawn mowers and the like) and then putting an addition on top of the garage. That addition would be for a new living room. The current living room would then become a dining room with the hutch, table, and some cabinets. We put in a large bay window in the living room a few years ago; the cats love that window! And in the kitchen where the table is now (in front of the French doors), we would put in a large kitchen island. There's a closet at the end of the interior wall in the kitchen that i use for canned goods and the like.....I'd love to tear that out.
In money was no object, I would have a new kitchen. Alas, that is not going to happen.
We keep talking about a back porch, too. I still would love to have a screened-in porch in the back yard by the pool, where the deck is now. Rick still doesn't agree with me. I don't know what's going to happen there.
All in all, the house is OK for two people (and seven cats). My dream home would be a large two-story.
We have single family house that we built almost 12 years ago. 3 bedrooms, 2 baths, family room. I wish we had a bigger kitchen (ours is just a work kitchen --- but it's really enough for the two of us -- and the 3 cats! Also would like a screened in patio. We h ad opted to have the family room rather than the patio, and we do make a lot of use of that. Never use the living room. Sometimes I wish we were closer to town - it's a 13 mile drive to the nearest supermarket. Some land around miles away from us was approved for a shopping center with a major supermarket (don't know which one Yet) --- but who knows when they'll actually start to build. Hope it's in our lifetime!
We have a side-by-side duplex and rent out one half. It's 3 bedrooms and 1 1/2 baths, but the bathroom is way too small. I'd like to knock out the wall between the master bedroom and the bedroom we use as a den, and then extend the bathroom into part of what is now the master bedroom. DH would prefer to sell and buy something with a bigger yard in a more rural area.
We live in a ranch style house. Three bedrooms and two baths and a full basement that is partially finished. I love our house - open floor plan. We have a great back yard - private - that backs right up to the woods. We live near a busy road - on the other side of the woods - so the road noise is bothersome at times. We are located on a culdesac so that is nice for no traffic out front. It is really the cats house - more cat furniture than people. :lol3:
Single-family home. I love it! It needs some very minor maintenance stuff, but I keep on top of it pretty well. The only thing I'd change is the location -- wish I could pick it up and move it to the desert we love so much.
