I'm about 1/4 of the way into the book. I'm enjoying it, but it's not a page turner. It's interesting to see how the English language has changed over the centuries, and there's lots of words I have to look up in the e-reader dictionary. One thing I find really interesting is how women are referred to as "handsome" and men having "beauty".

Yeah, I find that strange as well.

I love the book so far. Its definitely a page turner for me (that surprised me) and I love the language of the book. Its also really nice that Jane Austen doesn't have paragraphs of description; its mostly dialogue.

I just finished chapter 19 where
Mr. Collins proposed to Elizabeth, and she turned him down, and he thinks she just wants him to pursue her and ask again. Silly man..

That's a good point. And now that I'm further into the book, I find the reading is going more quickly.

Am I the only one getting sick of Mr. Collins' attitude? First he won't take Elizabeth's rejection seriously then he does this: "he addressed himself particularly to her (Elizabeth) as if wishing to make her feel what she had lost in refusing him." :angryfire:

Lola3791 Lola3791 : My book isn't split into volumes, so I don't know whether reading your spoiler will spoil me or not. :sigh:

I'm about to start chapter 29, which is page 157 of 367 per my e-book, so almost to the halfway point.

You know how people live tweet as they watch tv shows, well I'm sort of live posting as I read P&P. :hellocomputer:

Finished chapter 34 last night, and there were 2 quotes I knew would be on the internet.
Here's the abbreviated version of one of them::

See inside spoiler tag for full quote.
Quote from Mr. Darcy:

Elizabeth's response:
"You could not have made the offer of your hand in any possible
way that would have tempted me to accept it"

which was in this pic I posted upthread, before I started the book.
