Maybe our cats are just perverts.
My Lucky used to do this, and I just chalked it up to him being a pervert, lol. A few times - particularly this year, ironically enough - he had nights where he seemed kinda... randy. He was way more affectionate than usual, and this was a cat that was super-affectionate to begin with. He had this weird purr thing going on and then he'd roll over on his belly. And I'd be like, "Put that thing away, Lucky!" lol. I started questioning whether he understood the nature of our relationship for awhile!

Edit: He was also 16 this year. I wonder if it's common with older cats??

this cracked me up

I'm getting this sentiment too... like I'm not sure his fondness of me is really of the appropriate kind

I LOL'd through this entire thread! Honestly I don't think you should worry about it. Sorry for you that its your arm though! As someone else suggested in this forum, sex is a natural thing. Just somehow try to make it clear to him that your arm is not the place for it. Never dealt with this myself and have never seen a cat do this, so I have no idea what I'm talking about, but the only suggestion I can come up with is to get a plushie about the size of your arm or something LOLL.

A little stuffed kitty should deflect him from your arm.  Should you decide on this tactic, for God's sake make sure it is machine washable.

~mutters darkly to self, remembering a previous tomcat~  bunny slippers will do in a pinch

That's true, my Thumber used to have a stuffed duck. He loved that duck so much. And my mom threw it away after many years because it was all nasty and dirty. He was so sad, so we got him another one with a squeaker in it. He had absolutely no interest in it. Then that night, all of a sudden, I heard "squeak squeak squeak". He liked the duck after all!

And yes, this is a very true story.

Or simply a prosthetic arm, and dress it in my clothes, maybe he won't notice hahaha

Ya know, if you had asked me a few days ago for unlikely topics of conversation, the masturbatory habits of the American tomcat wouldn't even have made the list.  And yet, here I am, involved in just that discussion, in a semi-serious (oh come on, we're all laughing hysterically at our computer desks) way, about just that.  Life, my darlings, is passing strange.

Artie has down that since the time I adopted him! That was almost 4 years ago and he is almost 12 years old!!  And Neutered when he was a baby..

I could not believe this was happening the first time I saw this. I have never had a male cat before. I actually had to watch him in order to see if he had an erection...sure enough he does!!! unbelievable...but there is no fluid, that I can see...

I was such a perve that night. I had to out the light on very bright and hold him down, watching intently as he washed himself....{{{{{{{shudders}}}}}}}}

It has to be: at night

When I am on the recliner

when I have a throw on my lap (nice and soft--fuzzy, fleece throw)

I was embarrassed to talk to his vet about it... He was getting it on, at least once a night. The regular Vet said just to let him do it...thankfully, the throws are washable...

When he started feeling better from the IBD treatment, he started 'getting "frisky"' several times a night!!

When I was watching TV.. It was so weird...You could see it in his eyes...he got that "man" look; you know, the 'determined' look..  Artie was on a mission!!

It was getting obnoxious! I felt like a sex toy!! He would jump on my lap, immediately do his kneading, back legs going, got the deed done, jump off--lick himself clean; then he would jump on me again for more!! It went on several times a night; one after another........

At first, I could not believe it...I was embarrassed and shocked at his behavior...but he is an animal. But he is neutered!!!

I finally asked the Specialist Vet about this behavior...she said, absolutely, in no way should I allow it...

She said to put a stop to it immediately; push him away..

So I started getting setting down the rules. Artie can curl up on my lap, knead, but the back legs moving is not allowed.

When he starts with the back legs, I look at him; sternly saying; "No Willie", 'NO" --not yelling but putting my hand on his back legs..

The funny thing is; Artie knows exactly what I am referring to!!!

All I have to say now is: "No Willie"....and he stops.~~~ usually he jumps down at that point.

I wonder if he did this with his previous owners.....he knows the phrase....

such a weird cat....but I still love the Pervert!!

Fortuneatly "masterbation" isn't one of the prohibited words on TCS or it would be replaced with asterisks and we wouldn't even know what we're talking about

I have an 8 yr old neutered male named Psycho that does this very thing. One day I was home alone and I jeard the tv come on and yep the remote was under his blankie which is what he likes to hump. Vet said it was territorial but when he is done he looks like he wants a cigarette. He sprawls out and looks very dreamy[emoji]128576[/emoji]

I have an old male- 19- and he did this for years.  I didn't realize that's what he was doing, I thought he was simply kneading.  Since I thought it was just a security thing, I didn't stop him.  One night my husband said, "He's jerking his pelvis."  I pushed him away and he attacked my arm.  After that, I'd push him away as soon as he started (and he'd always yell and try to bite me), and it seemed to knock him out of the trance he was in.  He'd lick himself, then settle down.  He's reached a stage in his life where he just doesn't do it anymore, thankfully.  I have several males, and he's the only one that does this.

I've been doing a bit of....erm...poking around, so to speak, and have discovered that this is actually fairly normal for toms, even neutered ones.  They will, as well, mate with a willing female, although, of course, there won't be any kittens.  Also, the aggression levels drop so far that the cat will back down rather than fight a full tom to breed.   Seems Mama Nature just insists on being herself, and there's not much that humans can do about it.  We may prevent kittens, but we do not circumvent the desire for the activity that creates them.

My 4 yr old Savannah just started this. Took me by surprise as this is not a cat that enjoys touching ( he has rules) or even connecting with me. He is a ranch cat and is allowed out during the day but is in at night. It is when we are watching tv that he stands on me and starts frantic needing, and at 21 lbs he is a strong boy, petting him during this time is met with "the look". There was a comment made previously about this maybe being due to territory infringement. The only thing that seems to have invaded his territory is a starling I caught attacking him the other day. That also surprised me as he can catch a bird 4 ft off the ground in flight! I found him as a tiny kitten, about 5 weeks old, in the middle of the hwy with semis passing over him, he kept growing and growing an i have determined he is a lower Savannah, he stand 18 in tall 21 in.+ long and about 21 lbs. i dabble in photography and he certainly lives up to his name...

LOL @ the washable stuffed animal. :flail:

My cat Salem humps my blankets 3-5 times a week .... that I know of. What worked a bit for me was letting him do his thing if it was at the foot of my bed but gently pushing him off the bed or putting him on the floor if he did it up past my knees or if he was using my feet. (blankets OK, me or right near me, no.) So in your cat's case maybe move him to his cat bed or the floor if he starts humping your arm ... and buy him stuffed animals & kickeroo hoping he will become interested in that instead?
